SGFC On da flo'
    #13700361 - 12/29/10 11:26 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I'm using a SGFC (Shotgun Fruiting Chamber) for my first grow.
Unfortunately the ONLY place I am able to keep it is ~6'' off the floor.
I'm trying to avoid it being directly on the floor to promote FAE.
I have read a couple of places that most airborne contaminants settle on the bottom 12'' of rooms.
How much of a problem will this be for my fruiting (if any at all)?
I would like to hear some opinions from experienced growers.

If this is so, is there anything I can do to reduce the contaminants such as Lysol spray, carpet cleaner, disinfectants...etc.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

I have kept tubs on a laundry floor before and still had multiple flushes without any problems. As long as the room is relatively clean you should be alright. I would not want to keep them on a carpet though as carpets are skanky and it's not often that they're cleaned properly.

Keep Lysol out of your grow area, it is detrimental to mycelium.

You should be fine, cleanliness is more important during colonization. Healthy, fully colonized mycelium will be able to defend itself against mold and bacteria contaminations during the fruiting process.

If you want to be safe, spray a bleach water solution on surfaces in the area. I believe it's a tablespoon of bleach per 2qts.... that's what I use anyways.

I use a HEPA air filter in my grow room, for the main purpose of moving air into the closet and around my greenhouse for gas and air exchange. It also keeps mold spores and bacteria to a minimum in there.
