is it better to use tyvex or "gauze-like" filter discs?
    #1368843 - 03/12/03 09:24 AM (21 years, 22 days ago)

i am going to start to use filter disks for the first time.
i was wondering if i should just buy some tyvex or is it better to buy the fine mesh, gauzelike ones you can buy online?
any thoughts?

I have had great success using Tyvek as filters for my jars.

Do the filters really work all that great? I haven't seen much talk on them.

the filters DO work...but from my own experience there is a better chance of contamination from them as opposed to the Tyvek....

you don't need a filter disc with 1/2 pint BRF cakes.
cause of the dry Verm barrier.

People use filter discs on pint, quart and larger jars of Rye, Birdseed, Popcorn..etc.

.. but could you still use plastic lids and filter disks in place of the Verm layer and metal lids in BRF jars?. In my opinion the plastic lids and filter disks save you time and money in the end.. but will they work the same?
