Ive found matter!
    #1368422 - 03/12/03 08:51 AM (15 years, 2 months ago)

Hi all, can you help? A buddy of mine is looking after a mexican grow kit for someone and things have got a little funky! There were a couple of mutant shrooms to start with but now there are lots of these things that look a little like
the fungus you find on bark. Its pale brown in color on top of the growths, with a texture like that of the underside of a cap, and whiteish on the edge and bottom.
What gives? any ideas?

First off, are you sure that the mutant shrooms where really Ps. cubensis?

Secondly, what kid of substrate are you using.

Third, if its a shelf fungus growing, where is it growing, and give us some more details onto what it looks like. Is there a stem forming, or is it just a cap? I would like to try to identify it. Is it stiff, or pretty flexible? What colors are on the cap?

Is your substrate different, using wood or something? I've never heard of shelf fungus being a contaminant before!!

allen, a friends of mine had same problem. I'm not sure, but i think it has to do with either lack of O-O during colonization, or sudden drop in humidity after done colonizing.

Im not sure what the substrate is as its a mail order kit and i havent seen the stuff that came with it. Im pretty sure the mutants were shrooms as they were like short very fat stalks with very tiny caps, or like a knuckle made of stalk, i belive they are called knots..
th fungus is growing in clumps all over the surface of the casing each, bit around
1-1.5cm across they are quite firm, no stalks as they are quite round.
they look a little like sea anenomies, white, with a white frill around the top edge and a pale brown top, inside the frill, with the fan like texture of the underside of a cap. the colors of the frills on the top range from light to mid brown. Hope that helps a bit.
