Purple Days Vaporizer review

hey everybody, this is my review of the purple days vaporizer and aromatherapy diffuser
this thing is just so damn amazing, i love everything about it, and wouldnt change a thing first off though, id like to thank tom and pam (the inventors/manufacturers, yes the units are hand made), they helped me so much and were so accommodating when a couple of bumps popped up in the transaction, they sent me pictures and let me pick out my units body beforehand, which is beautiful and the pictures just didnt do it justice overall, tom and pam are just truely good people, which seems to be a rarity in the modern business world where the only thing that seems to matter to most companies is the bottom line i am 100% satisfied with my purchace and i am 150% satisfied with tom and pam and all the little (huge, generous) things theyve done for me
i got a rather unique unit, it was one of tom's earlier designs and the top is tapered rather than the whole unit being the straight soda-can style, i like it, it feels good in the hand and i love the look the taper gives the woodgrain near the top, and i also think it gives it a somewhat more delicate look, but that might just be my pride in my newest toy
this unit was incredibly easy to learn to use, or that could have been that i had read all 35 or so pages of the purple days thread over on fuckcombustion twice i get huge lung-splitting hits, i find the hit quality to rival my pipe, the heat makes you know that youve really got something if i want cooler, smoother vapor, i just add a foot or so of tubing, makes the vapor a lot cooler and denser but i can still get huge hits that will make me cough i do find that after a session with no tubing attached, my lungs and throat feel irritated, as i thought it would, the really dry air bothers me, so i usually prefer to use the extra foot of air path my absoulute favorite method of consumption with the purple days is the "mouth bong" technique basically, i take a sip of water, hold it in my mouth, stick the tube in my mouth under the water, and i inhale, then i swish it around in my mouth (vapor water tastes good, unlike smoke water) swallow, and get a fresh mouthful this could also be done with various fruit juces and beverages (i wouldnt reccomend soda, the co2 doesnt feel that good in your lungs) it cools an moisturizes the vapor, and i can get huge ass clouds with hat technique
the unit is absolutely stunning, tas blackwood when handled right will produce kind of a holographic look under a certain angle of light, its about te size i expected it to be, and it blends nicely into my intentionally dark room when i set it up to warm up the 30 minutes warmup time is somewhat of a double edged sword, its really not at long as it sounds, but its long enough to give me time to assess the situation and think if i really want to medicate at that moment, it also enables me to somewhat ritualize my use, as i can spend the 30 minutes preparing my conciousness for some deep meditation (i havent done it like this yet, i really should though)the 3o minutes is so that it can warm up a rather large stainless steel heat exchanger, which once warm, stays warm even with multiple successive hard hits i have experienced the negative of the warmup time, i had to go somewhere that i knew i would be bored, but the unit was stashed away and i didnt have 30 minutes, for these situations i think ill get the vaporstar later on
now lets talk about efficiency, this thing is the definition of efficient the small bowl is about a half to third of what i would pack in my pipe, yet one of these little bowls is all i need to have a nice high and still be able to function normally, two bowls will put me out of it, and 3-5 bowls will become psychedelic, and these states take a lot less herb to acheive than combusting i find it easy to use up to 3 bowls in a session (session defined as within an hour) just because its so pleasant to vape, overall i try to stay away from the ceiling effect and when i dose, i try to stay just at the sweet spot on the diminishing returns curve, which is usually 1-2 bowls depending on my set and setting and these bowls are tiny... a quarter inch across and a quarter inch deep, but thats what makes the unit so efficient!
heres some unpacking pictures, hope you enjoy them
tim is preforming the all important action of preserving my secret identity

the "happy birthday" made me smile i know tom and pam personally from fuckcombustion

 perrrty
tim is pleased! it took me a while to figure out that extra thing was to hold the stems, my first guess was that it was some sort of stand for the unit, which didnt make much sense it looks like i got an extra tin of buzz butter (beeswax based wood finish, made by tom) as a present too
at home now (i had it shipped to my gfs due to nosy parents)
lastly, if anyone is intrigued by this miricle machine, check out http://www.fuckcombustion.com/ the foremost spot for vaporizer reviews and information on the internet you can find this vaporizer in many different wood at http://www.purple-days.com/

Cool. Glad to see you like it.
How much did it cost? And it takes 30 minutes to warm up? Wow. I'm not trying to brag or anything but I can get my SSV going in less than a minute. So what exactly made you want the Purple Days vaporizer over the others? Cool pics by the way.

the 30 minutes warmup time is probably the only drawback, but it is offset by the fact that this vaporizer is meant to be left on 24/7, and is built to last. the led has a rated life of 10 years, and there are no sensors and such inside the unit to break down, the element is just a simple ceramic resistor. the unit was engineered very well it only takes 8 watts which is equivalent of 2 night lights. but even then 30 minutes isnt as long as it seems i keep my unit plugged in all the time, its very stealth and can pass as a ~$20 electric aromatherapy diffuser (whereas other units usually look like some weird high tech space age gadget) it doesnt even get a glance from my parnts (not weed friendly)
the element is a simple ceramic resistor mounted in a stainless steel (306 i believe, food grade) heat exchanger, with 60 or so radial fins which gives the air path much more surface area to heat up in basically its designed to retain its heat even with the hardest hitting, and it will stay in the right temperature range for about 4 minutes after its unplugged also it has a car adaptor, so you can heat it up at home and easily transfer it anywhere else while keeping it warm
the standard unit is $150, its made of cherry wood and comes with all the accessories you need he makes them in other woods too, they cost slightly more, the most ewxpensive is 185 and he also offers a service where you can send him a hardwood of your choice, and as long as its a suitible density, hell turn it into a pd for $150 but you have to pay for the wood and to have it shipped to him
you should see the durability tests though, the maker of this vaporizer ran his test unit over 3 times with his for f-250, threw it 20 feet in the air onto gravel, puts it in a laundrumat dryer for 30 seconds, smashes it with a hammer off a table against the wall then onto a cement floor, then he submerges it in water and tosses it in the freezer overnight after all that abuse the only thing that gave out was the led (probably due to the freezing), and he still uses that unit
what attracted me to this unit was its efficiency, one bowl is ~0.025g, and 2 bowls gets me really high. over on fuckcombustion there are a lot of members who have both the ssv and pd and say that for personal, they usually prefer the pd as their personal vapes and the ssv comes out to revape the duff at a higher temperature because they hit a dry spell or if some of their friends come over one of the main things that attracted me though was the maker himself, he has such awesome vibes and is the only manufacturer on fuckcombustion that sticks around and chats with us, rather than coming in "sell mode" just to advertise his product. hes actually become one of the core members of the community

I recently joined shroomery but i have had my purple days for about 6 months and i absolutely love it. Communication with Tom was brief but from posts of his i had read on fuckcombustion and how down to earth he seemed on the phone i can say he's a great guy to be giving business too. I take pride in my pd and love to share it with people, explain to them how it works and how it's a little different than other vaporizers and so forth (i myself used to have a herbalaire- still enjoyed the ha but not nearly on the same level as the pd and 100 more- and i have used a volcano a few times). I tell them how it is handmade out of cherry but you can select which wood you want and i show them how warm and comfortable it feels in your hand. As you can tell, i can get a little sentimental talking about it. also, lets just say plus the purple days equals
That's about all I have to say. I agree with what has already been said regarding it's efficiency, superb tasty hits, etc. Just thought i'd post and put my vote in for pd and try to give tom some respecct.

In contrast to every other review of this vape I have to say there are things about it I really don't like. One is the crappy draw through the thin tube. Might be OK for medical users who need very closely titrated small doses, but I find that the narrow tubes have crappy draw and clog easily, and yes I've tried soaking them in ethanol or isopropyl alcohol between uses. Alcohol does not seem to dissolve the really hard "baked" on leftovers.
Are there any other vapes that have similar build quality but that don't have what I perceive to be the design problems?

I gave a PD to my dad, and he just gave it back to me (mj didn't work as well for his pain issue as I'd been hoping it would). I use a Da Buddha and love it. I wasn't too impressed with the PD the one time I used it, but that's mostly because of how hot it was. I'll try some tubing in it. The tiny bowl just looks like wishful thinking for my tolerance, though.

i have a pd and im also a member of fuckcombustion. i got mine almost 2 years ago and the first one was defective but i called tom and he shipped me another unit off right away. he just told me to wait until the new one got there and there was a return shipping label in the box.
so not only was he cool enough to fix my problem right away but he even had me wait until the new one got there so i could use a return label and not have to pay to ship it back.
ive had mine on since i got it almost two year ago and it still works great. i only turn it off if im going away for a few days.
i still prefer my silver surfer though. i hook it up to my 18inch beaker style perc bong and im able to milk the fuck out of it with my silver surfer vape.
the pd i found i use more for parties. its a really durable unit and would rather have someone drop it then my silver surfer.
also have an iolite which is decent but the magic flight launch box takes the cake for portable vaping. i just dont get the hits i want from my iolite.
anyways congrats on your new vape.
