Earlier this year in the autumn I saw lots of dried out and dead Opium poppy plants growing in my daughters garden, I thought daughters 'X' had been cultivating these plants... but apparently not! they have been growing for decades in this garden I'm told. Anyway I cracked each seed head and scatted the tiny black seeds from the pods all around the garden before depositing the dead plants for burning on garden bonfire. What's chances of any of these scatted seeds growing up in to big healthy opium poppy plants next year? maybe I can secure the active substance and save it for future pain killing purpose's if ever needed?

Well if it's been growing in that garden for years, then it should continue to do so. ...unless you meant, you spread that in a different garden.

im not too familiar with growing things, what visual signs show that the seeds have germinated and do you use anything to transplant them carefully or would hands serve that purpose?

Poppies don't do well w/ transplanting. Your visual sign will be the sprouts shooting up basically.
