 Why won't the caps open?!

My friend has a casing in a plastic tub that was being humidified by a bubbler stone in a cup of water
This proved to be too much humidity because he would get a bunch of pins and they would grow taller but the cap and where the veil is attached would grow wider and more hollow (this is why he though there was too much humidity) and then they would stop growing all together so he ends up with these unopened mush that have a solid base but are hollow at the cap and veil
So then he took the bubbler out and would just let it humidify itself but now the mush dont puff out they just stop growing and never open their caps
SO ANYWAYS point being Why wouldnt his mushrooms want to open? Its not a strain thing because he tossed some unneeded grain into a pan and it produced a couple of regular opened specimins
If you need a pic of what Im talking about I can try to get one but hopefully someone can help me out.

He THINKS the humidity was too high and was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this problem
Humidity being too high (?) and pins growing and growing but never tearing its veil and just stops growing (weird)

ok well this seemed like a fucking viable question but dose NO ONE else encounter this problem??? 
the same thing happened with some grain he cased- nice pin set, but that was it just a bunch of pins that never grew up. wha the fuck??
anyway, the orignal tray he started with was made liuke so:
he thinks it was 1/maybe 2 quarts of colonized GT rye
spawned to scotts 3 n 1 with some verm
had a bottom layer of moist coir
total area estimate of 6"x5" and about an 1-1 1/2" deep
just when he thought it was going to be put to sleep, he decided to put it in a bag of water-- stayed in here for a short time, like 10-15 minutes short and the was taken out of it litle tr and placed on top of it (now its like a cake)
and now.......
hes got about 4 specimis that are 4"-6" tall
So who says you should dunk your casngs?? his tray-cake has fluffed up on top bottom and all sides now so hopefully it wl produce a decent load

I think they stopped growing cuz the casing dried out.... no water, no growth.

Nope, I don't know what you're talking about. Perhaps a picture would be needed to see coloration of the caps and the size of these mushrooms to determine what is going wrong.
It seems to me that you're not fanning enough, and possibly the humidity may be a little high, but, that should not be a problem. What about temperatures, what are your temps at?
Sounds like they are growing, and then aborting for some reason. If this is the case, then its something wrong with your mushroom strain. I've seen this happen only once, where primordia formed into 4 inch mushrooms and then aborted for no reason.
Another possiblity is contamination, where they just haulted growth.
Due to the fact I cannot really understand your post, its hard to answer. It seems like you also responded saying that the fruitbodies were growing still, and will not stop... IF that is the case... whats the problem?? That just means they are growing larger, and larger...

no, theyd grow into pins and then abort- temps were right, and humidity was fine, Im guessing it dried out but that still doesnt explain why it would CONTINUE to pin and they would never fully mature
whatever- its not that big a deal now, Charlie is waiting for it to stop raining so he can dry out some horse shit andmix it with the bail of straw he got for 3 bucks (shit was free)
Hwont have to worry aboout this problem anymore- least he hopes not
But im sure it was jut too dry b/c once he ducked it for a couple minutes, a few pins showed the next damn day and grew into 4"-6" thick specimens
