I believe that I have decided to get the new "slim" $300 Xbox 360.  I found transfer cables for cheap, and the new one supports the same AV/VGA cables which I use to play on my computer.  So I guess I'm sold.

Now the trick is finding a place where they aren't sold out.

i bought one and gave my Elite to my GF i like it so far, and the AV/VGA cables are worth it we gaming two boxes and iateshaggy  is right jus format a flashdrive and copy the content

no need for a transfer cable. you can put the old hdd in the new slim.  even if you get one that does have the hdd already in, u can transfer everything using a flash drive.

You can do this without modding your Xbox?

all you have to do is open up the old hdd.  it is nothing but a laptop hdd in an enclosure.  u need a t6 and t10 torx wrench.  then just pop it into the slim hdd bay.  the slim bay is a little to big so you may want to shim it p a little, i use little wads of paper for this.  google "how to open 360 hdd" and all should reveal itself to you.

Get a PS3! That being said, we just got a 360. PS3 still rules though!

PC gaming is the way to go, It'll cost you a good 1000 bucks to build a decent gaming rig that'll probably run games better than your console counterparts. If 1000 seems like a lot think about it like this, If Microsoft and Sony didn't sell thier consoles at a discount and charge game developers the extra 10 bucks (Why PC games are 50 and Xbox and PS3 games are 60) You'd be paying about the same for the console.

Comparing PC gaming to console gaming is apples to oranges.  If the franchises and games someone wants to play are console games, they will buy a console.

lol, really?  is it possible once for there to be an adult conversation about one console w/o fanboys for the other console and pc gaming coming out of the woodworks to spout advertisements for their console?

I WILL NOT BUY A PS3.

People think I'm going to forgo the usage of the several hundred dollars of Xbox 360 games and hardware I've purchased and immensely enjoy, so I can own the same system as them.

Suggestion: Dont buy an xbox 360, buy a ps3

I aggree, ps3 for the win. everyone loves their ps3. people who already own 360's claim that they are better for some reasons and in some ways they are (modable, ect). but fuck it, if you want the best gaming console i say ps3 all the way. many of my friends have 360s and after playing on my ps3 for a while they tell me once they get the red ring they will be buying a ps3 for sure. i used to own 360's,  3 of them to be exact. they all shit out on me in some way or another. ive owned my ps3 for 4 years now. its the oldest model and its still working like new. never caused me any problems. ever. you can just tell by the feel that ps3 is of higher quality and standards than 360. people will argue with me on this one forever but oopinions are opinions and some people are in denial.

plus ps3 online is fo free. xbox fan boys will try and tell you 360 online is better but i don't see how. theres always more than enough people online to play with and what not.

i see it like this, everybody who i know who owns a 360 and argues that it is superior doesnt really know jack shit about technology or what they are talking about. they claim that it is better "just because it is". i thought the same until i bought a ps3. everytime i run into a ps3 owner and discuss ps3 vs 360 it always ends up in a wink and a nod and it goes without saying much that were happy we no longer own 360's

just my 2c. again not calling anyone out or being biased, ive owned both systems.

i'm not trying to play fan boy here, just stating facts.  the early model ps3 suffers from the same gpu bga problems as the early model 360 so rrod and ylod cancel each other out.  the other problem they both have is the drive laser going out.  the 360's laser cost $10 and the ps3 cost $80.  if i am full of shit please show me some evidence other than calling bs.

im not calling you out, but i think the 360 is much more succeptible to shitting out than the ps3. ive never witnessed anybody i know's ps3 break on them (not saying much), but on the other hand ive been through 3 xbox's and almost all of my firends who own a 360 are on their second one from the rrod.

I can't say I give a crap about this Kinect stuff.  What I am reasonably impressed with is the fact that this generation of video game systems actually seems to have reasonable longevity.  It has already been 5 years since the 360 first was released, eh?

I said what I said because he said he was sick of peice of shit consoles breaking. I wasn't comparing the systems but with a PC most of the time you do not have to worry about crashing and unfixable devices. With a PC something goes wrong you can usually fix it yourself and not worry about a big warranty and a 3 week waiting period.

i get as many calls a week for broke ps3's as i do 360's and i don't even advertise that i fix ps3's.  both of them had crap launch consoles, u just hear about more broke 360's b/c more people had them cuz they cost so much less at launch.  last year when ps3 launched the slim and 360 launched jasper mother boards both consoles solved 90% of their problems.

i an kinda interested in the kinect games, but way interested in the ways we can use the kinect in every day life to improve many products and automate many aspects of our every day life.  take for instance, wifi + gps + kinect = cars that can drive themselves.

i agree

the cool thing is that this sort of technology went right where it should

in the homes of families and children

thats when these things become amazing when kids grow up with the ideas and the knowledge
