    #1362609 - 03/10/03 08:34 AM (21 years, 23 days ago)

a friend of mine was growing a batch of oyster mushrooms on straw, and some weird mushrooms popped up. they were very thin, popped up OVERNIGHT, have very thin caps that have a pattern of thin ridges and the spores are very dark, here are some pics. Does anyone know what kind this is?

Coprinus sounds like a likely genus.

Please read the sticky thread at the top of the forum and see if you can do a more detailed description. That would help us quite a bit to help you.

Judging by appearance, I'd vote for Conocybe.

Yeah, I agree with you as well Gumby, the only reason I thought it would be a Coprinus is because he said "Very dark spores".

Papa: If its a dark brown/black sporeprint, its probably a Coprinus. If its a rusty-brown to cinnamon-brown, its probably a Conocybe.

Either or, its probably of no use to you!!

well thanks for the input.... friend has no idea how it got there or how it grew so damn fast, but it sure looks pretty (those ridges on the cap are awesome). The spores are more of a rustry color upon closer inspection, so I think the latter guess is correct. Thanks again for the ID.

That sure looks like coprinus to me. They have black spores but when young the gills are lavender-lighght tanish brown at times.

Yeah, rusty colored spores would probably make it a Conocybe.

Good one, Gumby!
