Hey, it worked!!
    #1359712 - 03/09/03 07:41 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

So my FOAF is very happy because there are mushrooms growing from her casings. However, she said that they're only growing in a few places. There's an even amount of visible mycelium in the valleys throughout the casing, and no overlay. She's been misting every other day and fanning sporadically. Any advice?
Thanks,
-Phil

My FOAF used 6 cakes for each casing, so I don't think that that is the problem. She did make her casing layer 1" thick however, but i don't think that is the problem either since the mycelium made it to the surface.

the casing layer is a bit thick and also if you would have let the casing layer colonize a bit more before birthing it would likely be pinning in more spots. don't worry bout it though, the 2nd flush should be a bit thicker because the mycelium thats not expose to the surface/light/humidity will continue to spread out a bit. next time try 1/4 - 1/2 inch for casing layer on 3"+ substrate.

you say fanning speraticly(sp?), you should probably fan more. the more you fan the better off you are, there is no way around that fact, they breath freely in nature, and we have to to our best to support their needs.

if you are doing casings and need a damn good method for air exchange without having to manually do it or hook up pumps, check this post out: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Forum2&Number=1356654&page=4&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1
