Suet?

Has anyone tried using a suet cake as a substrate? I'm thinking here of those bricks of fat/birdseed that you feed birds in the wintertime. It would be a bitch to sterilize, but seems promising otherwise.

i thought suet cakes were compacted together with something?
substrate should be "light" and airy not packed for fast growth..

what holds the seed together in a suet cake?
