So I have a quick question about mycobags...
    #1358198 - 03/08/03 01:31 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

I have one single grow bag/including the filter patch at the top...
I filled it with my personal substrate, but I didn't seal it...I just sucked all the air out of the bag, pre sterilizing. Then I wrapped the bag(filled with substrate) around it'self then put 2 elastic bands around it...Then wrapped a dish towel around it and boiled it on a small rack in a large pot of water, for 2 hours with the lid on(has a steam valve).
Then I took the bag out, looked great, innoculated Via spore syringe at Injector site,
and then placed it into a LARGE ziploc bag,(the ones with the zippers. Then into a Garbage bag, al folded up nicely and copact, then placed in a dead(as in not working) freezer in my basement, for optimum temperatures/no light...
My question is, does it need any air exchange at this point? SHOULD it be air tight right now?
I ask this, because I will not be able to access the "package" for 1 month...It will be completely undisturbed...

even if he is rude, his question is still valid and should be answered.
i cannot tell you for sure, but my friend has used mycobags and is pretty sure that mycelium need air-exchange. HOWEVER, at the colonization phase of development, this will be minimal to none. i believe that if you left it for a month, it would colonize by the time you return. in the worse case scenario, i think the mycelium may finish colonization slowly... but, overall, i would say you may be okay. it is certainly worth a shot! good luck.
peace

Well if you knew basic science you wouldnt have to be so rude. The bags have a filter that let gases go through. If Carbon Dioxide builds up in the bag, it will start to leave the bag due the the lower concentration outside of the bag. If there is no oxygen in the bag, it will slowly absorb oxygen until it evens out to the same as the atmosphere. This is called diffusion.
