If you're talking about a password to lock others out, I'm not completely sure if you can, but you can prevent them from accessing a network. If you leave your computer off other than when you're using it, you can set a BIOS password which is quite effective as long as your computer case is locked.

windows is notoriously uunreliable in security department. best thing u can do is turn hotkeys off and setup a screen saver password as most folks couldn't easily get aroudn that. hell i think that the actual startup passwords are still kept in .pwl files (password list) go figure in the windows home dir up to 98. not sure with xp/me. NT offers better security as should XP since it was based on some NT code n such.

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

With W98, 95, and ME there is no way to keep ppl off your computer with a password, without a third party software. But for as much as youd pay for that software you might has well upgrade to a good OS like w2k or xp.

Yes the password for ME and below are kept in the PWL files, using a screensaver in hopes of locking ppl out is silly, restart the system and your in buisness.

But if your REALLY after security, look into using linux. Its come a long way and with KDE3 is really quite user friendly.
