im watching the nasa video again
someone just asked about aliens and the one representative deemed it as fiction
bahaha nasa probably won't be the source for news of intelligent extraterrestial life
and the chick just avoided the question and went on talking about the microbes
terrible way to redirect a viable question
when the report is about new discoveries that will impact search for et life

Aliens and alien microbes are quite different. They're not saying the found something analgous to a human on another planet. They're not even saying they found something analgous to an ant on another planet.

They're saying that the way we understood life to work before may not be how it really is, and that means that it may be possible for there to be life on other planets which have different resources than Earth. That's all they're saying, nothing more, nothing less.

Did you guys really think this was gonna be a "yo nigga, we got a message from ET and he said he wants to blaze an L then watch South Park and eat Doritos with us" type announcement?

They could have said it that way instead of pulling the usual avoidance card.

I really think there is a reason NASA has funding pulled, and did a long time ago.

1) Religion
2) Ground breaking discovery that will shatter reality
3) ????
4) They're just fags

This is pretty much one of if not the most badass thing nasa has yet to announce. I mean, people have speculated that life might be able to evolve outside the whole "SPONCH" paradigm, but to actually have that verified is fucking awesome.

I'd say welfare is far more worthless, i mean shit look at how it's abused (and it's about surivial of the fittest; always has been... not keeping deevolved monkey on the planet)

at least NASA can bring us some technological advancements, welfare just slows down technological advancements

I guess we're going to have to continue privatizing space

Uh wut? They said exactly that dude. Did you watch the thing? As soon as they were done with the science talk and opened up the the floor for questions they were flooded with questions from people who didn't understand it, misconstrued their words, and blew things way out of proportion.

"Yeah so we found these bacteria that can substitute arsenic for phosphorous in their biological make up, and that may change our concept of the necessities for life as we know it. Any questions?"

"YEAH I GOTS ONE! SO IF THEM BACTERIAS CAN DO THAT STUFF WITH ARSENIC, UR SAYIN U FOUND ALIENS, RAIT? IS THAT WUT UR SAYIN?"

I'm just saying I think they're slowly leaking information to us, which makes total sense and I can understand why but still.

I know the conference wasn't about that, nor was it implying that.

Nah I wasn't saying that at all, it's just awesome from a biologist's perspective and it gave me a nerd boner.

I don't give a fuck what implications it has in the science vs. religion debate, that's a futile debate anyway.
