Where can I watch this? The NASA tv site isnt loading for me.
--------------------
It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. Also he got a race car. Is any of this getting through to you?

ya because in the bible jesus totally says "all life forms must come from phosphorus!"
this doesn't prove, nor disprove anything about the existance of god

If you believe in a supreme being that will condemn you to hell for sinning you need to get your head out of your ass
You wanna know how to become god?
Become one of the economic elite.
Or become a biophysicist, or biochemist.

Dammit, I was all stoked that concurrent, separate evolution occured on earth somewhere along the line.
Still neat, but not nearly as interesting considerin the organism was lab manipulated

That site looks sketchy, let's see what NASA has to say.

The bacteria can use arsenic instead of phosphorous to build its DNA, however it does thrive better in a phosphorous environment where it starts to replace the arsenic, with the standard phosphorus.
The interesting part comes from the fact that arsenic is widely believed to be poisonous to ALL life.
It completely substitutes arsenic for phosphorous in it's entire biological make up, not just the DNA. The thing that makes it significant is they found the gene that makes arsenic for phosphorous substitution possible. I'm not sure if I heard right, but I think they said they found it in a noncoding/dead portion of DNA, which opens up the possibility that life originally used arsenic rather than phosphorus as one of the main building blocks of life.
We always thought the necessities for life were carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur. This could potentially mean any of those could be substituted with other elements with similar chemical properties.

I know lol, i just posted it cuz it looked cool.

I honestly don't think this is new news what-so-ever.
I think they're setting up for something bigger.
They magically have pulled alot of groundbreaking discoveries out of their ass the past few weeks, are they slowly breaking the news to something bigger?
I certainly think so.

I had a feeling this would happen. Most of the people in the science community are like "dude holy fuck this is amazing and huge," where as other people are like "uhh... so what's the big fuckin deal?"
