Looking for gun advice

So, I want to start hoarding weapons and ammo for the inevitable shit hitting the fan someday. I don't mean police, I mean the government falling apart or a zombie invasion, etc. That, and I'd just like to shoot off some guns with my buddies
Anyway, I'm looking for some kind of semi-auto weapon. I don't know shit about guns to be completely honest. I'd only like to spend around $300, which I know is extremely limiting. I don't have my pistol license, so any of that is also out.
I don't need something thats real nice, I just wanna have fun shooting a real cheap semi-auto rifle.
Some suggestions?

Meh...varmint rifle? Pellet gun? You can't really get a real rifle for under $300. Honestly though, you sound like you might have more fun with a couple of decent airsoft rifles, that way you can pretend your friends are zombies, or some such shit.
You could also buy some shrooms and pretend you have a gun.

If you're willing to spend just a little more, get an AK. They're cheap, reliable, easy to use and accurate out to around 250 yards. Also, the magazines and ammo for them is relatively cheap too.

well, for a cheaper rifle that uses cheaper ammo, I would recommend getting an SKS, which is very similiar to an AK. Different SKS's are of different quality depending on where they were made though. I got mine for under two hundred dollars and it shoots great.
My girlfriend got a savage .270 winchester w/scope for 2 something(new). it is also nice.

Besides the caliber, they really aren't that similar at all...
I'd recommend an AK over an SKS, but SKSs are slightly cheaper. You can get an AK for $350 or so though.

But i really recomend you save at least 200 more and buy a ruger Mini-14 defensive rifle.
Yup the mini-14 223 are nice or a AR-15 there both very reliable weapons and my weapon of choice but they go for about 600$ you probably can find one on a good deal at a gun show.

quite right.
There is some common ground between the two in terms of caliber, origins, and service use however there are some large differents as well. For example the SKS uses a fixed magazine whereas the AK uses external mags.
Parts are different, etc.
