Come on, you can do it man. You probably just need to spend a little more time at it. Clear your mind and focus all of your attention on the task at hand. Before you know it, it'll all click in and you'll be like "Oh shit!! I get it now! How could I have ever been so stupid!" There's no way you stupid if you've gotten this far in computer science. Computer science isn't for stupid people.

Any alternatives? Can you do an alternative course?
If not, then I agree with ^^^
This could well be your biggest test of character you have faced in your life. Tackling something which is so challenging can be daunting, but imagine the personal achievement you'd get when its completed.
I dropped out of my first degree after just one year - biggest mistake of my life (apart from the incident with the sheep and vacuum cleaner )
It's not something you can avoid, it is an obstacle you must overcome. You must finish - you'll hate yourself if you don't.

You can do it. Trust me. You really can. Will you do it? That's another question. I'm a mech. engineering major so I know exactly how you feel. Statics, Electrical Engineering concepts, that kind of shit. What type of a course is mathematical computation? It doesn't sound all that daunting compared to Calc III or Differential Equations, but then no math course ever sounds that hard. Is it one dealing with algorithms and such? I'm not a math wiz either, but I get by I guess. Anyway, if you try and try and try and still can't even begin to understand it, the problem most likely lies in pre-reqs. I know that I didn't learn trig well enough in high-school, and it kicks my ass every day. It would be very hard (esp at this point in the semester) to go back and look at lower level course material, but it might be the only way you can truly understand this stuff. Another suggestion -- get help! Go to your math departments "Math Help Lab" (or whatever they call it) or try and find a free tutor. If all else fails, hire a tutor. I'm sure that your parents won't mind paying $10-15 an hour for a few sessions if it's going to help you go that extra mile. Lastly, like they said above, when you do succeed, you will definitely have a great feeling about it. Good luck, and just remember, you CAN do it. P.S. -- I really need to take some of my own advice. For what it's worth, you're definitely not the only one who is struggling with a very difficult major. Edited for dumb spelling mistakes.

Don't give up. It sounds like you need some one on one help. Go talk to the professor or teaching assistant. Or get a tutor. You just need someone to sit down with you to explain things and answer your questions. Don't let this one class keep you from getting a degree.

I'm the opposite. I can do anything and everything, but I have no motivation to do so. If I could spend hours studying, I would. Try everything you can, ask people to tutor you for drugs after the tutoring, but never give up. The only thing worse than losing is giving up.

I used to take tutorials at uni, and your tutor is there to help and is free tutoring! I'd milk the tutor! Make an appointment (and set aside an hour).....
