Possibly A Great Idea For Drying

This hobo I know is just getting into growing, and hasn't even had colonized jars yet. But through reading all the info on this site and others, he's been planning ahead....
Now since he's been toying with all the different methods of drying shrooms, he told me about an idea that might work really well... So maybe if you guys have heard of it working, or not working, feel free to share...
Needed:
1 Lingerie Bag 1 Shoe Rack For Clothes Dryer 1 Clothes Dryer
What to do:
1 - Put all your shrooms in the lingerie bag 2 - Place Shoe Rack in your dryer 3 - Set your dryer to "Fluff" for as long as you can 4 - Repeat #3 until completely dry
Now this hobo had a few concerns
1 - The dryer may output heat even at "fluff"... but will test with a thermometer before he tries it out
2 - The dryer is the most expensive piece of appliance as far as electricity costs are concerned. Though this hobo has a feeling that may only be the case when heat is invlolved
3 - Depending how long the drying process takes, it may be annoying to have to restart the dryer all the time
Anyways, it's an idea... Pretty smart for a hobo if ya ask me...

Would placing them on a screen on one of those large square fans on blocks be kinder in terms of your power bill?

more than likely it would yeah... but since this hobo doesn't have a big block fan he though using what he has available could be cheaper

you may end up with a bag of dryed mush gunk stuck to the interior of the bag. Realy its not to hard to just leave them on a screen in the airing cuboard or sit them above some desicant try the more usal methods first time out Good luck with it all.

Those fans are really inexpensive at thrift stores. You would also have to make (a) desiccant chamber(s) though. This guy I know made some following the drying tek in the MMGG (Grow/Find). After 24 to 36 hrs on the fan, transfer to bowl(s).

If you tape them to the drum, you're in buisness.

true that would be better but you have to remeber there like 90% water and that makes for good mushyness if batter to much id let them dry out a little somewere else first so there not sofresh and squidgy.

SWIM isn't so sure that a desiccant chamber is necessary. SWIM has gone through about 4 flushes, and all they ever do is leave them in a tupperware tilted toward a fan until they are cracker dry. The time-frame depends on the substrate; BRF dries much quicker than grain (SWIM is talking about the fruits here) because grain (obviously) tends to produce thicker, meatier, and in general larger fruits. SWIM gets cracker dry fruits in an average time of 48 hrs.

That beats measuring/cutting wire mesh and messing with desiccant.

So now my friend has a question, he has done two methods for drying. One is that he puts all the little guys on a paper towel in the middle of his pool table and has a fan blowing on them. It takes 36 - 48 hours and they are cracker dry. The other method was to just put them on a paper towel in a chest. It took about 4 days this way. Now to my friends question. He sees all these fancy methods of drying and wonders if there is a reason not do it the way he has been. He tried the little guys and had a lot of fun. Does he risk mold or something? One thing to mention is that his house is very dry this time of year. Humidity is 28% in his basement.
