This is a brainstorm i had after finding out my local grocery store was getting rid of the bulk food bins. They are completely plexi glass. We were going to use rubber stoppers to hol up the drip shield and it will hold 4 cakes. Lemme know what you all think. Especially in regards to humidity, air exchange, heat light, etc.

Great find! Tho you may want to cover up the sides to direct the light straight from above.

i see you'll be using perlite in your terrarium. my friend has used large grow chambers with perlite alone, and humidity usually stays above 90%. you might be able to get away with out misting at all.

They will work great!
No need for a drip shield...waste of time, space and patience...IMHO

if you guys are saying drop the drip shield, that would lead me to believe that water droplets on cakes/mushies isnt as bad as some make it seem.
correct?

My boyfriend and the hooligans are having an argument about the perlite. BF wants to put little holes in the bottom of the containers to drain excess water. The holligans say no because you need the water from the perlite to create humidity and draining some of the water defeats the purpose. Also BF says that the hooligans should only put enough water that the perlite can soak up. No excess, but the hooligans say have just a LITTLE extra for humidity reasons. Who is right, the hooligans or my BF?

BF is correct, but a little excess h2o won't hurt anything.

Put an inch of perlite at the bottom, and a half inch of water. Don't drill holes, or else your water will drain and the perlite will dry out MUCH faster then you think. Plus you need that water. As the perlite "evaporates" the water, it will condensate and drip down the sides. Therefore you'll have almost a continuous supply of water and humidity. (Hence the whole purpose for the perlite).
If you want, drill a little hole an 1 1/4" above the perlite so that O2 can escape. You don't need to drill this hole, you can just fan it out instead.
