government and anarchy
    #1353968 - 03/06/03 06:50 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

if there were no government, you would beat me up and take my shoes. then i'd get a posse together and beat you up and take them back, plus cut your hand off. then you'd get a posse and we'd have big gun fights. my posse would start claiming territory and so would yours. we'd have laws on our turf, and you'd have laws on yours. i'd be in total control of my gang and my turf....

there can't be anarchy because this shit happens. people form governments for protection. if there's no government, then there's another. anarchy is a myth. the closest thing, and the best thing, is when the only thing the government does is keep you from stealing my shoes in the first place. they should be there for protection, and that's it. a fair government istituted for the sake of protection, and that is all.

Thank you, I think that nicely sums up what I was trying to say in the other anarcy thread.

you would beat me up and take my shoes

Why would they feel the need? The group would be sharing their wealth.

why would the group be sharing their wealth? what if i was part of "the group" and i didn't want to? what if no one in the group wanted to "share" their wealth? (you know that's what would happen). would we be forced? no? you are talking about libertarian socialism, or otherwise pure communism. good luck trying to get that to work.

So we continue as we are doing? Can you see much future in it?

And I would hire you to make me a few hundred jackets a month from other Shroomery posters, which I would then sell at a handsome profit to rich teenagers in Japan.

Anarchy would only work with responsible people on this planet. The minute someone says "I want your shoes, give them to me or else", anarchy breaks down and the situation you described may follow. If people become responsible and compassionate to each other, anarchy will naturally follow in my opinion.

I think anarchy will either eventually teach people to be compasionate and responsible, or, we'll all kill each other. Either way i think its better than this.
