North Oregon Coastal hike, shroomy pics
    #13524440 - 11/22/10 01:32 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

We decided to go on a coastal hike and seek out mushrooms at the same time.  This was on Tillamook Trail near Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast.  It was beautiful, but the recent land slides were scary to hike through.  This hike was definetly not for the faint of heart.  Saw some cool mushrooms.  Nothing worth eating, but got some great shots!  And I saw my first Aminita Muscaria, which was cool I guess.
Enjoy!

I wish this picture came out better!

These guys were everywhere!

A very gelatenous species:

This was a great looking little guy, nice pic J:

Wish this turned out better too.  In a stump, was a perfect little spawning habitat:

Land slide evidence....scary...

Can you see me?

What is this, I say! ;P

Not worth eating, but cool pic:

Thanks for looking!

1) Boletus
2) Galerina
3) Lichen
4 - 5) Cortinarius vanduzerensis
6) Mushroom
9 - 10) Amanita amerimuscaria.  They are worth eating, fry them in butter with some pepper and salt, but do not eat too much, maybe around a half a cap.

When they are fully cooked do you feel any of the deliriant effects?

1/2 cap?  I added both of those to my pasta sauce.  It was very yummy.  No good effects.  Definetley felt weird for 6-12 hours.  Not worth the effort IMO, but an experience for sure.

Are you from Astoria? Is Cannon Beach where that last scene in Goonies was filmed? One of my favouritest films ever. It reminds me of being about 4

Nice pics!

That's cool man!  Yeah goonies was filmed in astoria, dunno about the last scene.
AND, I just wanted to comment on my last comment .  I was UBER careful, or as careful as one can be, when dealing w/ eating those Aminitas.  I quartered the small one and ate 1/4, an hour later 1/2.  After feeling nothing, we decided to put all the rest in to pasta sauce.  It was yummy!  Nothing good to report as the outcome, nothing bad for that matter.
Anyway,
Shroomery.org FTW.
Thx guys.

Yes, unless you blanch them in boiling water first.
