Have shitake, oyster, agaricus bisporous cultures on some MYA plates ... really nice looking cultures... they are from the (organic) grocery store. I wanna give it a shot. Have fc capabilities.
Oyster- hay ... dung? Trays work?
Shitake - BRF (+ sawdust - what kind?) cakes to mycobagged wood something
Button mushroom to dung?
Just looking for a healthy winter project. Once I get a little success with these I can't wait to give Reishi a shot. I have some experience and the ability to be sterile Sorry about my jittery message -- strung out on college. I've been abreviating a lot.

Dunno about oysters and dung, I've been meaning to experiment myself. I'd start with just straw though, you're more likely to succeed.
Shiitake basically you can do a PF tek only with sawdust instead of verm, I don't know what wood is best. If alder is available I'd go with that.
Buttons - I think RR does 85% volume dung, 10% verm, and 5% gypsum, bringing to field capacity, and then casing. Dunno about spawn ratio.
How exactly did you get the cultures from a grocery store?
Reishi is probably the easiest of all of the above to grow...

Mushrooms cloned from the store aren't usually the best way to go. Their genetics are old and tired.
Oysters like a wide variety of substrates, usually straw, hardwood (sometimes softwood) sawdust, coir, vegetable scraps, ligneous materials of that sort. They are generally grown in blocks or tubes with holes in the side for a vertical fruiting surface.
PF tek will work on a small scale for shiitake, but supplemented sawdust/wood-chip bags are more efficient. They like hardwoods such as oak and alder.
Agaricus sp. are secondary decomposers, so they are generally grown on pre-composted substrates. Id leave buttons till you've got the hang of things, personally.
Reishi are easy and grow on the same sawdust type bags that your shiitake grow on. Hell you could even do the same mix for shiitake, oyster and reishi.
First Id get the hang of grain spawn tho.

the oysters and the reishi are the simplest to grow. Start simple and work your way to the more demanding mushrooms.
Oysters will grow on just about any cellulostic waste, whatever you can find for free in your area is the place to start and work your way from there. having to buy the substrate makes it an expensive grow.

So ... in terms of getting the best cultures to work with for any of the above (mostly interested in Oysters, Shitake and Reishi) where should I order from? I may just give the cultures I have a shot and see what happpens for practice. Thanks for the feedback

Yeah just start with your oysters. They're the easiest of the ones you have and a great one to start with. Shiitake just requires the ability to spawn to a sterile substrate. If you have the ability to be sterile you should be fine. Just is a little easier to screw up than oysters

EASY! Yes they were. Are. Not fruiting in bag though. Yet. Reishi next, cept spores got frozen. Maybe I'll just tissue culture some shitake from the store for a little bit more of a challenge.
