edibles in central ill

is morels the only ones that grow around central illinois? i have found morels. what about the rest?

I looked on a few sites and morrels were the only ones that were ever said to grow in central illinois

I'd be pretty surprised if you didn't have a lot more edible species than that. At a minimum you should also have Oyster Mushrooms and boletes. For the edibles you will do best during the late summer mushroom season.

A good source for your area of the country would be Tom Volk's web pages about mushrooms. The stuff in Wisconsin should also be found in Illinois.

Contact a local mycological society and they should be able to tell you in great detail when and what.

Yeah, i love morrels too. I like chantrels more though, if you fry up some chantrels and a good steak, wow it is great.

There should certainly be other edibles. Look in the woods in August - October a few day after a rain and you should find oyters and boletes like the dude above said. In grass fields you shoulc find Agaricus campestris. Get a mushroom ID book though for sure.
