Wondering what the hell is in these jars?

Apparently someone I don't know is using the PF Tek (Verm / BRF). Now it's been 5 days since he's colonized his jars, and this morning he noticed the beginning of some mycelium growth....
Now, it appears some little white "blobs" have surfaced on the jar itself almost from the get go. He says it look like wet clumps of BRF... Now his jars were extremely well mixed to begin with. Is this anything he should worry about or is it just the humidity causing this?
Also, he has his jars holes covered with masking tape.... Now he's been told that removing the tape would be best for air flow, since the dry verm seal will keep contams out.... But if he's a smoker, would it best to keep the tape on, or smoke in a different room (he uses his computer room, soooo yeah), or would it matter at all because of the verm seal.....

Are your jars exposed to the open air?

Yes, his jars are in the open air.... They could be placed in a closet, but he's afraid the heat of the room won't make it there....

build an incubator. your jars should be in temps of between 80 to 86 degrees. I doubt your room is that warm.
Having the jars in the open room will cause several problems. Contams being the first issue. Light is the second...you don't want any light during colonization.
good luck!

He's got his room at a nice toasty 86 degrees... He's also got a black cloth covering the jars to prevent light from coming in...
From this morning to now there's already been more progress in the mycelium growth. The only odd part is the one jar that hasn't shown any growth yet is the one he put too much innoculate in (2 cc's by accident)

hahaha thats what i used to do, live in an extremely hot environment to aid colonization. But dude, you'll be spending much more money on heat than on the cost of the incubator, especially if you have electric heating, so I'd suggest you build an incubator unless you don't pay for heat.

Well, my buddy also has a reptile in the same room, so it's all good heating wise... =)

I'd suggest covering the jar tops with tinfoil as an added precaution.
