I really enjoyed this doco, looks at people trying to create perpetual motion/free energy.
Watch the first few minutes, might interest you.

I ultimately don't adhere to environmentalism, and I don't subscribe to the cultural endowment, but as a free-thinker, I suggest this documentary to anyone who wants a good perspective from those who actually do care and do something.
Good film.

The Garbage Warrior - {Watch Here}
Quote:
Garbage Warrior is a feature-length documentary film telling the epic story of maverick US architect Michael Reynolds and his fight to introduce radically sustainable housing. An extraordinary tale of triumph over bureaucracy, Garbage Warrior is above all an intimate portrait of an extraordinary individual and his dream of changing the world.
Imagine a home that heats itself, that provides its own water, that grows its own food. Imagine that it needs no expensive technology, that it recycles its own waste, that it has its own power source. And now imagine that it can be built anywhere, by anyone, out of the things society throws away. Thirty years ago, architect Michael Reynolds imagined just such a home - then set out to build it. A visionary in the classic American mode, Reynolds has been fighting ever since to bring his concept to the public. He believes that in an age of ecological instability and impending natural disaster, his buildings can - and will - change the way we live. Shot over three years in the USA, India and Mexico, Garbage Warrior is a feature-length documentary film telling the epic story of maverick architect Michael Reynolds, his crew of renegade house builders from New Mexico, and their fight to introduce radically different ways of living. A snapshot of contemporary geo-politics and an inspirational tale of triumph over bureaucracy, Garbage Warrior is above all an intimate portrait of an extraordinary individual and his dream of changing the world.

I really dislike Michael Reynolds.
I wouldn't ever expect anyone to give up their ideas for free but at least don't hide behind the disguise of being a "warrior" and "fighting for sustainable housing" or "changing the world".
They're a business, -All the basic information needs to be paid for through books/videos. -All the detailed information, such as blueprints and other important documents that allow people to construct said designs start at amounts like $5000+. -Workshops/seminars/test sites are run to produce a significant profit. -All communication with his company is charged like a regular architecture firm, you don't get something for nothing.
The guy is a smug douchebag, you can't change the world through hoarding your information.

This Film Is Not Yet Rated.
It's a movie that details the hypocritical nature of the American Movie Rating Board.
It sounds dumb at first but it's actually really interesting.
So many Indy companies never have a chance while the big studios get all the great treatment.
When Trey Parker and Matt Stone were first starting out the movie Orgasmo got slapped with an NC-17 yet the only nudity was a guy's ass for a joke.

you could probably throw something like Objectified into the technology category.. its all about industrial design. stuff you really never think about and all the work and testing that has to go into it.
there are tons of awesome freely available documentaries out there. SnagFilms is one of my fav sites out there.
heres a couple good free ones you may like..
Off The Grid: Life on the Mesa
its about people who go totally off the grid.. living in a community in the middle of the desert.
http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/off_the_grid_life_on_the_mesa/
Carts of Darkness
homeless people doing downhill shopping cart races. it sounds insane but its really amazing.
http://films.nfb.ca/carts-of-darkness/
there are definitely more sci/tech related docs on SnagFilms. some are just ridiculous.. watching MacHeads makes me lose all hope for humanity..

i thought Religulous was funny but didnt really offer very much in the way of facts/information.
the only real thing i took away from that is that there are more people in the US who dont associate with any religion than there are black and jewish people combined.
itd be nice if we could all organize to quell the religious right's influence in politics but itll never happen.

hey space elf and whoever else cares, GLOBAL WARMING IS A MYTH. they even have to call it climate change now. Also, scientists feared global ice age in the 70s

It's not a myth. It may be a natural process but humans are speeding it up. That video has virtually NOTHING to do with global warming. It's about the repercussions of mankind's actions on a global scale.
Who cares what some scientists thought in the 70s? You speak of scientists as if they all agree with one another but they don't. The average temperatures from the past few years are the highest temperatures ever recorded. There's no debating whether or not the Earth is warming up. The debate is about whether or not humans are responsible.

You want a heartbreaking documentary?
The Cove (japanese dolphin murder) The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
Anyways, Al Gore is a crackhead politician, like drug smuggling killer Clinton, not a scientist. jon christy lead author of the ipcc says that he is not part of the consensus that he hears about concerning APGW.
temperature pushes CO2 not the other way around, leading by hundreds of years(admittedly CO2 has an effect as a greenhouse gas, but 75% of those gases are water vapor, whereas CO2 is something like .054%) Oceans warm and cool over vast amounts of time changing their CO2 absorption capability
I'm sorry to keep arguing this point, but eugenic elitist bastards(Gates, Kissinger, corporatocracy) help run the world, and cap and trade needs to be stopped
Jon P. Holdren Obama's science czar, co authored a book called Ecoscience calling for eugenics policies, Obama(not that he is the leader) wants a one world gov, look who he surrounds himself with.
Have fun looking all this up

Great if you like games or you're a nerd otherwise it would probably suck.
That doco spawned a fucked 12 month period of my life, built a custom MAME cabinet and for many hours a day (nearly always drunk) attempted to beat Donkey Kong (+ all the classic games, Joust was my favourite ).
In the end I just put SNES/Genesis emulators on the hdd and played stuff like Sonic and Super Mario World
