Anybody else find these? They are one of the most unusual mushrooms I've found. A lady friend and I were out hunting chantrelles in a second growth doug fir/western hemlock woods above the Nooksack valley. Found these interesting translucent-almost transparent little polypore looking mushrooms coming up through the moss. They have the funnest rubbery texture! Really neat shrooms.
I've read they're edible. Anybody have any experience with eating them? I'm curious to try them.
Oh, also still finding chantrelles, but somebody must have beat me to one of my spots.

Someone ate one raw last night at the PSMS meeting, and Curecat licked my hand with one.
A beautiful and magnificent mushroom!

I find these a lot right now in my neck of the PNW. They ARE neat! What I remember reading about their edibility is that they are indeed edible, raw even, however a rather nondescript flavor with the expected jelly texture. For those reasons, I don't eat them. Sounds kinda gross. Here are a few I have found

I find that texture kinda appealing actually. Kinda reminds me of some of the japanese mochi candies- it's like a rubbery rice paste. I will have to try them.

Good luck with the eating then! I do hope you enjoy. I have a rather large block with texture and consistency, I can't even eat marshmallows.
@ Twiz, I thought I did have them on MO, but I don't! I think I will!
Happy day to all!

I haven't had the privilege of finding these yet, but even the pictures look fascinating! Are they similar (texture-wise) to Auricularia species, or are they sturdier?

That was Danny Miller and he ate it on a jelly donut. It was pretty awesome.

Someone brought a big one in to the ID clinic last week and Danny mentioned that he ate one in a jelly donut, but I didn't connect the two for some strange reason....

I found one earlier this year. Didn't realise they were edible.

The mushroom that Lord Mayonnaise posted goes by the same name- Pseudohydnum gelatinosum. They range in colour from white to grey, and the shape varies as well; some grow like a shelf in a pleurotoid manner, some times the stipe is absent, some times the stipe is long and grows straight up with a lateral cap attachment. All the forms go by the same name, but some forms are more common in certain areas. For instance, the grey, pleurotoid form like the one LM posted is common in AU and Eastern US. Where I am in Western US I see all shapes and colours, and some times I see grey and white ones of different shapes all on the same log.
