Psilocybe pelliculosa

First a couple habitat shots.
A couple indicator species.
Galerina marginata
Hypholoma marginatum
Psilocybe pelliculosa
hygrophanous caps
a little bluing
I found these in a different area and I'm pretty sure they're a different species. Maybe Psilocybe silvatica?
side by side for comparison

wow you did it bro!!
those are beauty specimens and stellar pics!! those could be silvaticas i guess, you need a scope to tell the difference. but the cap coloring is supposed to be more yellowish than pelliculosa.

I found some last year but the road has been blocked off all season long so I just started searching new areas. Out of the 8 cuts I checked, 5 of them had pelliculosa growing in them. Every single spot that had them also had twice as many hypholoma and about an equal amount of galerina. One time I was just driving down the logging road and I saw a huge patch of hypholoma growing on the edge so I hopped out and sure enough there they were. They're just starting to pop up too so now's a good time start searching.

I doubt they're silvatica if they're supposed to be more yellow then. Maybe since they were growing through grass they just look different.

Awesome! So these fruit very late then? What are the Temps they fruit at? Assumably quite low. I always thought Pelli's grew more or less at the same times as other actives, but the cyans are ending and these are starting..... Thats cool!

Yeah, I really don't know the temps for fruiting. Last year when I found them it was mid November. I only found them in one clear cut, the only one I searched in because I had the swine flu and I felt like shit. This year I searched every weekend in October and didn't find any. I didn't get out again til this weekend and they're everywhere, tons of pins a few mature fruits but no really old rotten ones. Unfortunately it might be over already up here... It started snowing this morning around 7 and it has not stopped since.

Awesome photos. Do you know how long ago the area was clearcut? I wonder how long after a clearcut they start fruiting and how many years after that they will continue to fruit.

I have to agree with everyone else, those are some very awesome pictures. Someone should put one of these (or a couple) on the wiki article for Psilocybe pelliculosa. If that's okay with shroom360 that is. The picture that's up there now pales in comparison to these photos.

i will eat some next week to let you know how they are. but just cuz they are less potent it doesnt make them worthless. they dry quite small so you dont have to eat big caps like gyms. so instead like libs, which they dry and look exactly like, when you eat 20 + for pellies i will eat 40+ . sometimes the fruitings are huge so they are an awesome mushroom. i was just about to put some serious effort but this stupid fuckin snow ruined it.

Yeah the snow sucks man, I had to cut my hunt short today because its pointless trying to find these tiny mushrooms in even just a dusting of snow.

Fairly recent, I'd say 2-3 years ago. I didn't find any in last years clear cuts and the ones I found a year ago were in a 5-6 year old clearing.

Total eye candy. I, too, love the habitat shot and well all the other shots.
-------------------- In ancient times, when demons roamed with man, They hunted, loved and lost, hand in hand, As time went on, the difference between them faded. You couldn't tell anymore, demons and man were related, and some would say the same, but who would like to claim? In time, Gods had even forgot, Demons, too, once love had sought. In times recent I remember, Once I was a man, In my heart I had an ember, I'll relate the best I can but it was snuffed, one distant December. And yet here I stand, no flesh, no bones, no seed or semen, All that's left is this Demon.

Awesome photography! I read that psilocybe pelliculosa grows in Idaho where I live? It must be extremely rare occurrence though;because I have searched diligently for them with no luck! Iam well experienced in searching for psilocybes, and have studied them for over 15yrs now.I have never gone to the coast and come back empty handed without psilocybes.Idaho sucks for psilocybes due to our extremely cold temps.Anybody else ever found pelliculosa in north Idaho?Back in 1997 however I did come across three specimens of P.stuntzii[blue ringers]growing in a cluster in woody debris covered in pine needles.Been back to the same spot every year since, and have searched high & low everywhere never to see them again in Idaho.

According to Menser the margin of P.pelliculosa is "straight, never incurved" [Hallucinogenic and poisonous mushroom field guide by Gary P.Menser p88 and plate on p89] what you have there is P.Washingtonensis. A more exciting find photographically!

An analysis of the type collection of Psilocybe washingtonensis was shown to be a Deconica species and not active or close to sect. semilanceata.

Can y’all help me intensify these? These were found in Late June after a heavy rain week in the Midwest. I’m thinking psilocybe pelliculosa found a newely laid sod.
