Whats the current consensus on making/drinking Reishi tea?

I'm just harvesting my first reishi. I'm cutting it them, letting it dry, then I an going to hopefully powder it in the food processor.
I've read that 3 grams is pretty standard for a daily dose. What do you think/take?
Also, how long do you boil for?
Thanks guys.

I haven't made anything from Reishi yet but I'm thinking on grinding it up and using it as an additive to meals like spaghetti, etc., to hide the bad taste.

I ate about a pingpong ball size Reishi knob yesterday... quite pungent. I hope tea greatly mellows the flavor.

Would it work ground up in capsules? Seems like the most painless way to me.

RR's said that his wife makes a broth using various medicinals and boils her pasta, rice, etc., in it instead of water.
I assume it's another way around the taste.

I can't see why it wouldn't.
One thing I've read about taking Reishi is it shouldn't be ingested before having any type of surgery.

i usually go for about a 3-4 square inch surface area of conch depending on the thickness. boiled until the water is somewhat dark. The taste is like nothing else and doesn't join well with anything else so i usually just chug it down quickly with no additives. If I'm sick I try to dose twice a day.

My misses boils the Reishi up with a couple of dried dates to take the edge off the bitterness but it's still a pretty ordinary beverage.

Thanks for all the info and ideas guys!
I'm really interested in how long you guys boil it for though. I read some where that a 4 hour boil is required to release the..... I think they are called polysaccharides. Correct me if I am wrong.
I was thinking about boiling x amount of grams in 1L of water. after its cooled, add up the water that has evaporated. Then when I want some I should be able to easily measure out a dose equivalent to 1-3 grams( I'm thinking about taking 1gram 3 times a day) to a glass of tea.
I really like the date idea. I : dates!! So rich and nutritious!

I like to slice them thinly while they are still fresh, they dry fast this way then you can put a small piece in a cup of hot water like you would a tea bag.

Peppermint & Honey Reishi Mushroom Tea makes one serving
● 8 ozs water ● 9 reishi mushroom slices ● 8 fresh mint leaves (crushed) ● 2 tbsp honey ● 2 drops of peppermint oil
Bring water to a boil on the stove. Add dried reishi mushroom slices and allow to steep for 15 – 30 minutes. After the mushrooms are fully saturated, add fresh mint, peppermint oil and honey and stir. Reheat if necessary.
Time/Money Savers/FYI’s:
● For another tasty variation, omit the mint & peppermint oil and instead slice & boil a fresh peach, mush it and add the peach juice (and a bit of the pulp) to reishi mushroom tea with a few tablespoons of honey. Delicious!

This is what i do.
Get an ice cube tray measure the volume of one cube. You want 3 grams worth of reishi per cube, a cube per dose.
You know the weight of the reishi powder so you know the number of doses and therefore the amount of water needed. Mark two bottles at this volume, one with water one empty.
Perform three successive 10 min extractions in boiling water you might need to add more water due to evaporation. Squeeze remains through a cheese cloth or similar after each extraction, I use an old t shirt. Fill the empty bottle as you go, if you over shoot the mark just reduce the by boiling if its lower dilute. Then just pour into the tray and freeze.
I cane it down with a coffee or espresso.

I was throwing around the idea with the ice cube trays already, great minds think alike.
Am I making up the fact that you need to boil for 4 hours to get all the polysaccharides extracted?
I swear I read it here somewhere. I wanna get all the goodies I can out of it.

Polysaccharides should be fairly soluble in water, however the triterpenoids will require an alcohol extraction.

Out of curiosity is there any difference in making tea vs grinding the reishi up and making gel caps? Is there anything the heat does to make the good stuff more accessible or will it basically come to the same thing?

Thats what I'm wondering. I havent had the time to try and find where I read that reishi needs a 4 hour boil. I really dont think that I make it up.
Seems like a lot of people make tea, and a lot make gel caps. Just got this pm from curenado

We grind them to powder and eat 2-3 "00" size capsule 2-3 times per day. For regular use you can just go 2x2, but if someone gets sick, has diabetes or cancer it needs to be 3x3.
We also make liquid by http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=12095693&page=0&vc=1#12095693
EXCEPT here lately I have been making the final mix 20% or more of the alcohol part and, on the last water wash of the reishi I pressure cook the batch and water already done (all the water part) for 1 hour so that it sterilizes everything. Extracts can ferment in the heat, so we keep them in the fridge. If you pc your water and use a bit more mushie/alcohol as the preservative you can leave them out at room temp better. *fermented extracts still work they just look ugly and taste kinda yuck.
But eating them is just fine. We have for years and it is easiest. Some of us so lazy we just throw a heaping teaspoon of powder in the last bit of our coffee or hot drink and down like a shot. Capsules cost money and kind of a pain to make up, but we do that for some people too.
Reishi is hard and will destroy your coffee grinder. Try to see if you can find a herbalist or health food store that has a "plate grinder" or a "silver bullet" grinder to make you a fine powder.
To grind reishi it has to be BONE dry or it will spin up in a kind of "reishi floss" or "reishi polyfil" on you which is just as good, but hard to cap and measure for drinks etc. (I get impatient and have made a few runs of reishi floss - still used it!)
OK! Congrats
Think over the whole thing about a hundred times and hit me back if you have any questions or probs - if you tried to buy full spectrum extract of the strength you can make yourself, you would be paying over $10US per ounce at wholesale. Capsules half the size of what you would make cost $30-$50US for 90 caps! (yes, they are going to hell...) So having your own is a great boon and health power that lets you eat "the food of kings" on a paupers budget.
