SGFC Small vs. Big

This is my first grow. This is also my first post. I'm following the pf tek as close as I can. The only area I'm having trouble in is getting the right size tub. It is now a toss up between the only two remotely relevant tubs.
It's either a clear sided 58 qt (23 1/8" x 16 7/8" x 12 1/2") or an opaque sided 35 gallon (32" x 20" x 19 3/5").
So my question, For 12 1/2 pint cakes of GT on perlite, in a SGFC, is it better to go too big, or too small? I don't have any choices in between these two.
Lids would be clear on both.
Found plenty of info through the search to help me weigh the pros and cons of a big vs. small sgfc, but nothing to really solidify a decision for me. As I can't get the exact size I want, which way should I go? Do I risk the CO2 build up in the small, or the possible lack of humidity in the large? Or, am I misinformed and one of these is perfect?

Clear latch top sterilite. walmart.
35 gallon will work. Might want to just go w/ two of them....
just drill a shit ton of holes in the sides and lay some perilite....
fan and mist multiple x / day.
There ain't nuttin' 2 it!

wait, go with two of the 35 gal? I figured one alone would be too big for 12 1/2 pint cakes...

no SGFC is too big
as long as you got 5 inches of perlite

Many of the fellas here like smaller tubs.
I prefer larger ones.
The one I use and like is 92 quarts. (Sterilite Ultra)
It is fairly tall for its footprint which allows me to use an extra thick layer of perlite and it can also be used for trays of bulk substrate without running out of headroom.
Here's how I set it up:

It is sitting on the lawn for the photo shoot .. when in operation it is elevated so that air passes underneath.

sitting next to a little 10 gallon (40 qt.) monotub.
I like bigger .... especially 'taller'.
Good luck to you.
ps: when you construct it, 'back up' the drill bit with a chunk of wood so the plastic doesn't crack from pushing too hard.

Rico, I've seen you post that set-up in multiple threads. I looked for that tub at my walmart, target, ace hardware, and a few local stores but nobody had it. I miss big cities. I'm thinking going for the 35 gal is my best bet then...

Larger tubs are better because there's more room for the CO2 gasses to dissipate. In addition, clear tubs are better because they admit more light. I'd go with the larger of the two you posted IF it were clear. It sounds like you need to look harder or take a road trip. I've found them at Lowes/Home Depot type stores. I refuse to walk into a walmart for any reason. RR

You could get to nice sized tubs and not use the lids. Flip the second tub over and use it for a lid, and double the size your SGFC would have been if you had used the normal lid.
I despise Walmart too, every time I go there I have to remind myself why I don't shop at Walmart. I wanted to buy a calculator and a thumb drive, but the ten dollar thumb drive was chained to the wall and no one in sight with a key. I left and went to Staples 1/4 mile away.

I like how you raised the trays off the perlite here:

Nice idea.

With my SGFC, I used what was already available in my house, a typical clear 10 gallon tub with white top, I ditched the top, and just used a plexiglass sheet I had in my barn. My question is, the plexiglass top isn't air tight on top, just sitting on it, small cracks im sure, but will those openings mess with the humidity regulation?

Whoah. Answers coming a month and a half after the question.
I ended up using two different fruiting chambers. I didn't notice any big difference between the two. Both tubs are in 2nd and 3rd flush. I am falling behind on harvesting. They just keep coming and coming.

RR has stated humidity should remain around 95% even if the lid was off. You should be fine.
On a side note, I got busted for stealing from Wal-Mart.
