OMG tell me more!!  How do you get into this line of work and learn the tools of the trade?  I am IN LOVE with crystals and would love to be able to hunt down my own some day.

so i basically dig different rock and sell it rough and in sphere form. i also dig the obsidian needles which i turn into wind chimes. it's alot of tavel, camping, and selling at shows to really make a living out of it. mostly i dig various obsidians, moss agate, and quartz crystals which i also use in the wind chimes. as far as getting started, you just have to learn, watch, and work hard, as in moving mountains of gravel.

I am interested in minerals and stuff. I would like to get more into it. I live in a great area for various mineral deposits and whatnot.

Im no rockhound but I would love to get more into it.

That was the lame thing about hawaii... Its all basalt, no interesting minerals. Lots of other stuff to keep one busy though...

plants are nice and i used to be really into forest ecology, but i started seeing all of the patterns and fractals in rocks that i did in plants. now it's a whole new adventure, and leads me to places that have ecosystems that i would have never learned about. most of the mines are pretty far out there.

Wow, thanks so much man!!  I am very excited about Hawaii.  I am just focused on getting there and then I will work out the details of existing there as I go along.

But UH Hilo is the only university I ever really wanted to attend.

last spring hiked up Glass Butte in Oregon and grabbed a bunch of obsidian. it's all over the place there.  a friend of mine is gonna knap some blades out of it.

also did a little bit of digging for Tourmaline back in Maine. found some tiny pieces.

rocks are cool.

existing in hawaii is pretty easy.Especially on Big Island.. There are tons of work trade farms and stuff.  Living outside of mainstream society is pretty simple if you are on the right island.

And yes there are tons of different species of passiflora! Oh and just walking around picking guava and eating it like an orange:yesnod:

i love glass buttes, the fire pits and aurora borealis in particular. there are some gold sheen pits up there with man sized boulders that cannot be pryed apart.it's so hard to leave stuff like that behind.
