Started my first grow [Cambodian and Mazatapec]
    #13479782 - 11/13/10 06:57 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

Hello all. New member here! Thanks to the brilliant guides and posters on here, I've started my first mushroom grow (PF Tek) with 3 jars of Cambodian and 3 jars of Mazatapec. I ordered them from a website called The Spore Depot. I'm not sure if they're a Shroomery sponsor or not.

The hardest part was ensuring sterility. I purchased the BRF jars pre-sterilized from eBay as I dont have a PC (yet). Admittedly, that is the expensive route to take but I figured i'd cut out one point of failure since this is my first time. Next time i'll make my own. I also made a glove box out of a Sterilite container, cleaned it out with alcohol, and went to town on the jars.

I knocked up all 6 jars 24 hours ago with approx. 1.67 ccs per jar and set them in a shoebox on top of my computer. The Core i7 processor keeps em nice and toasty (a little over 81* F). One jar is already showing some action! Wow..didn't expect that to happen so soon.

Not much to share yet, but I will update with pics when there's something worth showing. I've never eaten magic mushrooms before so I'm looking forward to the experience.

Welcome!
1) you aren't seeing anything in 24 hours
2) put the jars away for a week.
3) not on a toasty computer.

You make it all possible. Doesn't it feel good?

I've also heard being a Saints fan causes stunted growth.

Just remember that this hobby takes time so be patient and wait for full colonization before you birth them and keep and eye out for any color besides white growing in the jars. Good luck hope your prodject turns out great for you. Have you made a Fruiting chamber yet? I like Shotgun FC myself for BRF cakes. :mushdance:

if your PC case is 81 your pushing the contam risks and depending on internal temp might be hurting more then helping. put them on your book shelve next to your php and mysql book instead.

Thanks for the comments guys/gals. I moved them away from my computer and they're showing some signs of life 4 days after innoc. Have a while to go though!

Im doing a standard Shotgun fruiting chamber and staying "by the book" as much as possible for my first grow.

Here we are at 7 days. No contams thus far. Mazatapec is spreading a lot faster while the Cambodian has a whiter color. Looks like little clouds

Those look good, they are going super fast for MS:thumbup: Are those regular half pints? Get the wide mouth next time, makes birthing easier.

Actually, Cambodians are supposed to be incredibly fast colonizers, nearly on par with Brazilians.  I used them for my second grow and found them to be pretty quick.  Though honestly, for some reason, PE has been my fastest colonizer.

damn those are going fast!

Where did you get your pre-sterilized jars of sub? and how much? I use regular BRF cakes, but hold shyt, those are colonizing MUCH faster than my AMZ which were knocked on 11/2 and aren't more than 75% colonized

ebay member "simplysubstrates09". $28 including shipping for 6 1/2 pints. Pricey but I didnt have a pressure cooker at the time. They were pretty slow to ship out, but i cant complain with the results so far after 1 week.

I've got the jars at about 80-81 degrees which probably helps a bit with the speed too. In the wild these strains like heat

So the Mazatapecs are between 75-90% done. 11 days since inoculation. I'm impressed with that strain's speed. The Cambodians are noticeably slower, between 30-50%.

Here are the 6 cakes in my SGFC. I accidentally mixed them up so I dont know which are Cambo or Maza anymore, not that it really matters.

They do seem to be coming along rather slowly and very...small. The cakes on the left are at 5 days I believe. The others are between 2-3. I birthed them when I saw pins. They are getting misted daily and fresh air 3x a day or so. 4-5 inches of perlite in a small tupperware keeps the humidity at around 90% or so (digital hygro isnt too accurate)

Hope it turns out OK. Thoughts?
