How would you feel about moving abroad to busk and live rough but possibly get a job too?
    #13472566 - 11/12/10 08:26 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

My buddy thinks I'm fucking nuts but I'm pretty sure it would be a good time and a good experience if nothing else.

Price of rent there seems kind of high. It's possible that we might have glass collecting jobs secure once we actually make the move but that's not enough to live on. Maybe we get a few gigs or something too.

Obviously a lot more thought needs to be put into it as all I can think of is busk, get a few coins to rub together and chill out.

Go over with a few hundred, busk, collect glasses so that few hundred would be a kind of back up or float if you will.

How does this sound to you? If living rough is going to happen then it won't be till the warmer months for obvious reasons...

What you think?

The likelyhood is that even with two jobs it would be a struggle for rent and bills...

Corners could be cut living rough and you'd quickly learn the ins and outs, where the drinking fountains are, water is dirt cheap there actually, where you could sneak a shower, cheapest place to wash clothes, cheapest healthiest food etc.

An adventure if you are capable.

A disaster if you are not.

It all depends.

Sounds like an adventure to me.

Good luck! :inlove3:

My advice? Life is not material, i understand some money is necessary, however, the most important part of life is the pursuit of happiness and even if you're living dirt poor, you'll be the happiest person in the world so long as you do what you love, even if you have all the money in the world your "happiness" isn't true unless it's because you're doing what you love because as Ben Franklin said "true happiness isn't cause by an underlying purpose" or something along those lines, basically if you bought your happiness it ain't real etc.

Am I delusional in thinking that this sounds like fun?

Once it's not cold then that's half the battle. Get some decent songs/jamming going and people are bound to throw down some money.

I'm pretty sure I can make myself look plenty more pathetic too. If people simply begging get money then playing music has got to be worth more,no?

Get turfed out by the local crew in the middle of the night:lol:

Haha, not crazy at all i left Russia with almost no money and no family and started my life brand new in america and it's hard but worth it in the end haha but it doesn't get much colder than siberia so temperature isn't a problem for me haha, just go with the flow man, but remember, how are you suppose to grow mushrooms if you're sleeping in a cardboard box from time to time haha

Worst case scenario, you could come up with an awesome cardboard sign like this dude:

I would not hesitate to give him nomies and I don't even care if he goes back to his mansion and uses it to buy crack and hookers.

This guy moved from Sibera to america and is recommending you go on a similar "adventure".

Where are you going?  And are you going from America?  I think the situation is rather different...

You know you could

in like, your own town or one 100 miles away and not have to buy a plane ticket to 'live rough'.

The reality is that a lot of people experience  "even with two jobs it would be a struggle for rent and bills..." every day.  Its called life.

I've always been a bit confused by the traveler mystique.  Is the 'far away adventure' just a big symbol for you to take charge of your own life for once?  If that's what it takes, go for it.  Just consider that you can make radical lifestyle changes without becoming a tourist!

You have to follow your heart.  I'm moving to Hawaii in 2 months and I'm planning on vagabonding it for the first few weeks.

I'm going to Hawaii as a vagabond BECAUSE want an education.  What an experience it will be.

Plus I want to check out the university at Hilo.

It's not touristey if you are a nomad.  I want to be a nomad.  I am studying survivalist skills now.  Nuts, berries and shrooms have sustained people in the past, who's to say you can't do the same?

If we lived in the 1800's you could stop at houses you came across and ask for a room and some food.  Now you will get the cops called on you and/or shot. haha.

But I think your idea sounds like an adventure!!  I would try to keep the few hundred for transportation back home if things get too shifty.  ANd you should really make sure you can handle yourself defense wise against other humans as well before you head out but don't let anyone discourage you.

Most everybody assumes that house+money+vehicles+othergadgets=happiness and progress but sometimes I wonder......

I think maybe living like the native americans is the way to go.  IMO, a large portion of technology is causing us to devolve and become weaker as a species.

Don't get me wrong, I love my electric can opener and interwebz(just a very few examples), but is this lifestyle what's best for me?

Personally, I wouldn't care for it.

I would hate not knowing where my next meal is coming from, or whether I had a roof over my head, running water, heat etc.

I'm boring though.

Yeah, I used to think of happiness in the more "hippy sense", money is worthless blah blah blah.

Now I know that happiness is happiness and I would love to have a little house out in the mountains (that I would have to buy) or just a house and a family anywhere.

Yes money only has value because we assign value to it, but you can "fuck the system" and maybe live a happy life or you can play the game and maybe have a happy life. Different strokes for different folks.

I've decided that in all likelihood I'm going to play the game.

Who is talking about doing it forever?  For me it's a temporary experience that I'm able to do while I'm young and bold.

I have my whole life to settle down.

Oh, I know, I've seen them too.  I do want to add my 2 cents to society one day, it's just that I have to go wild and break tradition first.
