A year ago I was paid $2400 a month to go to graduate school.
Now I'm paid $1400 a month to work at a factory.

AMEN to that bro
i scrub dishes
for fuckin 8 bones an hour
worst job i have had so far in terms of pay....hopefully its not toobad tho. i will update. I mean i can scrub adub for hours on end i just hate dealing with people in a work enviornment. Out clubbin n shit i am mad social but i hate being "fake" on behalf of some company (ex; customer relations/service)
To all you servers etc...i can understand why you do it and i am not judging..in fact i envy you. I just am not a ppl person for pay...only for myself. With that being said maybe the fact that this job is straight manual labor will make it more fun than my last two higher paying customer service jobs
just being optimistic...its probly gonna blow

I got a call about a dishwashing job but it's thirty minutes away and it only pays $8/hr. If I was ever going to scrub dishes again, it would have to be in the town I was living in. That job is the pits, especially when they start asking you to do other shit on top of cleaning the dishes.

It really is, unless you work in an enviroment where you are permitted to speak out against asshole customers.
I work at a club now, but I have about 10 years of fine-dining experience including banquet management. It's pretty glamorous, actually. I get to doll myself up and be extremely superficial on the weekends and then be my laid-back stoner self during the week. Sure, I deal with a lot of drunken fools and I see most of the 7 deadly sins acted out before my eyes every work night, but I also get to tell people off if they are being exceptionally lewd.

I'm a cook at a small restaurant. The pay is pretty good, and I really like all my coworkers (well, except for one, but I only see that dude 3 hours a week). Also, my chef is getting ready to up and leave after he's trained me on proper invoicing and such, so I'll probably get some full on kitchen management in before I leave.
I was working a $12/hour, 60-65 hour a week (plus 10 or so commuting) job working at a small corporate chain, but the working environment was so fucking miserable, along with all the employees, and the management so shitty, that I ended up walking out on them. I've never walked out on a job before, and don't plan to in the future, but I gotta say it was pretty sweet going from constantly being negatively criticized by management to getting a weeks worth of messages on my machine asking me to come back. Not the best career move, but I was going bonkers.

I have a job at an Italian pizzeria. Our oven burns wood and it takes about 90 seconds for a pizza to cook at 800 degrees. I've been at this one for a couple of months but I was at another location for 2 years prior to 2 years off from this place.
I get a free pizza every time I work.

I just wish I could get a few more hours. I bet I'll regret saying that once finals roll around though.

Exactly! Even when I'm not working I can usually get a free pizza. Sometimes two if I'm with somebody. It's really great. So if I run out of money I can just go get a free meal of the most delicious pizza that you've ever tasted.

I work at a grocery store. It's not great but it's not bad either, I get paid decent. And I get raises on schedule, I work for a union.
I don't get a ton of hours though, maybe 16-30 hrs a week. I'm going to start looking for another job after Christmas time, Because I figure I'll get a lot of work during Christmas, and I don't really want to tell them I'm unavailable.
I'm going back to school soon anyway though.

that pay is your pay, it helps you go out and have a great time at clubs and let's you be your own man on your time a whole lot easier, so in reality, whoring your self out serving customers is all to benefit you and you dont have to put on an act for the customer unless your some obnoxious twat or something... just be you and have twice the pay

I suppose you can say I work for myself on eBay. I have been doing it for the past few years now, I like how I can pretty much decide how much work I want to put in, of course the pay reflects that though.
I sell different stuff such as random things my friends want to sell, sometimes I find really good deals on craigslist where I can simply resell on ebay and make 30-40 dollars, and lately for the past few months I have had a sweet connect where this guy who owns a computer repair store sells me all his extra inventory for really cheap.
Textbook season is coming up to, lots of kids are desperate to sell their books and since bookstores pay them shit I can really cash in
If I could do this for the rest of my life I think I would be pretty happy. Extremely laid back an I can do all work stoned as fuck (even though it seems to take twice as long).
However I am in the second half of a engineering college now so I guess ill see what a real job is like fairly soon.

there's numerous places around the US that do the same thing you are, selling on ebay for others, some have store fronts and stuff, you should consider turning it into a larger business, maybe bring in a few of your friends as employees

This seems like a good way to supplement income. I'm cleaning my place today, might as well see if there's anything to sell.

I have considered it, school kinda limits my ability to properly manage others, but maybe this summer I will really look more into it. I have actually worked as a ebay lister for this one guy who paid me $10 + 1% commission but it didn't last too long, I think he may have figured out its not worth it to employ someone else. Who knows though, maybe he just didn't have enough connects.

I've been out of work almost a year now. i've been desperate for work since i got an associate's degree and got a certificate from a trade school.. all that means absolutely nothing to the companies who offer the jobs for which i have training though. I'm hoping to go back to school and at least finish a bachelor's, but I can't do that until I get a job and make enough money to pay for it.
the job scene is so weak right now (here anyway, because there are thousands of people out of work, who have years of experience and they take every job that opens up in my field). my own uncle couldn't even hire me to his own company as a draftsman (which they really need) because his partner won't take on anyone without experience. I've been trying to find unpaid internships or just work for free lately but every single one of the firms I've sent a cover letter and resume to have responded telling me that they are not legally allowed to have anyone work without pay and they don't hire people without experience.
so if i can't even get hired to my uncles company to get experience, and i can't work for free to get experience, i don't know what the hell else i can do. i'm starting to think i wasted 25,000 of my parents money on a trade school that can't even get me a job.
the worst part is that my girlfriend's mom (in Brazil) tells her that there are TONS of jobs for autoCAD draftsmen down in Brazil right now. Only problem is, I have no way of funding a trip down there and no way to support myself until i land one of those jobs. I would leave the US in a second if i could, this place is falling apart.

wow! is that even legal? i thought minimum wage was almost $8 now? I once had a dish washer job that paid me a few bucks below minimum wage and their excuse was that i was supposed to be getting tips.. but no one tips dishwashers and the wait staff didn't pool their tips or give me a cut. i quit that job so fast. second to worst job i ever had. its bullshit that they can get away with paying someone less than minimum wage because they're getting tips. tips aren't guaranteed. i hated that.

I am a student, a single parent, I do most of the pc repairs for people in my neighbourhood, and I also work 20 hours a week from home.

I'm a student. I sold a lot of drugs and have been living off of that money for 3 years while working catering here and there(not parties every night ya know?) That money is finally running out though so I'll probably get a job after chrsitmas this next semester. I've been blessed.

I tried the ebay thing but it failed for most part cause the selling fees were too much. For college books its good though but i dont know if you can have guarantee client base for that all the time.
I do some guitar lessons though as ive posted before (great pay for the time put in) but im working on some other things

I work part time at my campus's rec center doing IT work. Lately, we've been designing an online database so that every university's rec center supervisor can enter information about their facility (such as athletic programs and # of fields, etc) to benchmark their facility with others. It's a cool job because I spend about half of the time messing around on the computer on Reddit or Facebook, or writing emails for classes. The system design part is also interesting, but can be boring at times - like when I'm researching how to fix a problem or implement an upgrade to a system.
Next year I'll probably be doing IT Consulting or working in a large secondary mortgage company's IT department.

i work as a security guard and i hate my job with a passion. ive been there almost a year now, im constantly threatened with termination/writeups for the most mundane and stupid shit on a daily basis. the "work" is the most boring thing on earth 99% of the time im supposed to just be sitting there staring at a wall, instead i read, browse the shroomery on my cell and do homework. that is about the only up side to the job, i get alot of reading done. but i would take ANY other job that actually required me to do something, i hate just sitting there and watching the clock.

SquaReSaltine said: Yep, best paying job ive ever had, bonuses included, but i hate it. Boring office job. I like being productive and helpful, and i just sit and spin most days. But ive been here 3 yrs now, and hopefully will be here another 7 or so. It pays the bills.
Same here. I've been at my office for 2 years now tho. And I can't stay for too much longer because though I make more than I ever have, its still not enough to support myself in this expensive city. Especially while paying off assloads of student loans.
