Pot grinders

Can some one explain the need and concept of this device? I recently inherited a grinder - http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13413235/page/1 , and the only time I saw one in use was when my 20 something nephew got my vape-cherry. . Pot powder doesn't work for joints, or in a bowl, for that matter. I've always used sharp shears to reduce buds to rollables. It is a nice chunk of new fangled precision aluminum machinery though, and there is a lot of dust in the bottom, and about a joint of shake above the screen ... 4 serious responses from pot smokers only ... . . .

The more surface area your pot has, the better it burns. I like my weed ground up pretty damn fine.
Back when I could smoke schwagg or mids I wouldnt use one, I would just pick it apart quickly. But with dense sticky buds the grinder is key. I use mine every day, and search for it rather than break up by hand.

Hmmm... Its not strictly necessary for weed of any kind. I've never used anything besides my hands and grinders. My friend has one and swears by it. He'll practically beg to use it if he is smoking with us.
I prefer to break up my stuff by hand. There's just something about the act of carefully picking the parts that you want that I enjoy. Plus good weed just falls apart perfectly with your fingers.
Grinders do not reduce the weed to powder, but some of will will end up as powder. If it is a three section, then the powder will fall through to the bottom, and it's more potent that normal weed by weight.
That stuff is great for sprinkling on top of bowls, or adding to joints for a little extra kick. Plus it tastes awesome!
But whatever, it's just personal preference.

If your pot is overly dry, it will turn it into a powder too fine to pull smoke through. You only need to turn it a few times at most and you should be good to go.

I like grinders for 2 reasons:
1)Easier to break up weed that's not cracker dry.
2)The kief collector on the bottom is AWESOME.

I just bought a Sharpstone 4 piece grinder tonight.
It's awesome. It's got a clear top to, so It's easy to get it to the right consistency.
I like my herb somewhat fine, as well.

Huh? It works great for both.
I wouldn't really call it powder though.
Plus the kief catch is perhaps the best invention ever.

My pot grinder = Scissors and a shot glass.
that powder on the bottom = keif
That screen is there to sepearate the weed from the kief. But it serves as a good purpose as a container to help build up your kief amount. So they arn't all that bad.
WHen you roll your j's with better quality weed, lace it with that powder. It will get you way more faded.
If your weed is way too dry, you can try to re-humidify it. Some remedies were sticking orange peels in your container. Works sometimes if its not too late. But it sounds like your dealing with some overly dry weed.

Yeah I dunno what he means because ground up weed is MUCH better for rolling joints with. And it works in a bowl as long as you don't grind it too fine. It may be unnecessary, but as you said the kief catcher is awesome.

I ground up some weed in a food processor one time to make butter. It was practically dust. We took some and rolled a blunt. Maybe we rolled it too tight, but I doubt that, cause I've never had that happen before, but we couldn't pull it. We tried and tried, but no air would come through. There wasn't enough airflow because the weed was ground so fine. Although I can't see a grinder doing that to weed, unless it was overly dry.

Indeed. I have used small scissors before, too. It's hard to use your hands and get it nicely broken down with some sticky bud, especially when you chew your nails like I do.
