70-75 always, perlite humidification just placed on lids, no vermiculite under or on top of cakes
its been like that for 2 wks, no signs of pins, should i be worried?: :/
the substrate was teh pre processed and sterilized jars from Spore TRading Post (bad choice) but they seemed to colonize fine and dont have any moldz or contams...any suggestions anyone? thanks

I'm just a newb, but I think to initiate pinning you are supposed to expose the cakes to a small amount of indirect light... like 6 hours a day should be fine..

i would guess you are exposing it to light and doing several air exchanges a day. are the cakes very fluffy? is there mycelium forming raised blobs (hyphae) ?

yes i have been exposing to light whenever possible (over 2 hours a day) and fanning 2-4 times a day, i seemt o have all my conditions right
the mycellium seemed to be geting fuzzy after 2 days of bein in the terrarium, and on the spot on the cake there is some vermiculite showing and some fuzz has showed growing on the vermiculite also...

i just noticed you said no don't have verm on/under the cakes. in my very limited experience with fruiting cakes, i've noticed the vast majority of pins form on the bottom edge of the cake as well as the top. and coincidentally this is where the moist verm is. also i've seen plenty of posts that support this so you may want to try the "double ended casing tek" which is basically setting the cake on a layer of verm and putting a bit on top of it too. make sure its moist.

Take your cakes off the lids and put them directly on the perlite. Also, wait a little longer

no perlite could actually rehidrate the cake alitte, which can couse formation of some pins... just like dunking
also if you have some dirty perlite in the container, you can change it.. and add some ho2 to it, to keep the bacteria away... or safer way would be to just follow the double end casing tek...

Not in my friend's experience. He ONLY places the cakes on perlite now. This allows the verm on the underside of the cakes to absorb some of the water that the perlite releases. It helps a great deal with mushroom formation and cake hydration.
Since perlite is non-nutritious, it cannot become contaminated. Placing a cake on perlite is just as safe as placing it on a lid.

Then is putting h2o2 in the perlite needed? Or does it benefit the cakes in some way? I think I read somewhere that it helps release co2 or something?

Yes, it does. It's an added precaution to make sure there aren't any (bad) bacteria in the air that may infect the cakes (which rarely happens anyway).
So, the h202 is not needed, it's a good precaution to take though

If the cakes are bluing, they are too dry. Cold shock/dunk in cold water and case.
