Hamsters On Mushrooms
    #1346525 - 03/02/03 11:25 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

SWIM has a hamster that enjoys mushrooms of the psilocybe species. SWIM's hammy will eat 1-2 small (1 inch tall or so) fresh mushies then kinda run around the cage climbing on things like a mad monkey and or sitting in one spot for hours at a time just staring at the air. By consuming these things can SWIM's hamster actually be having a psychedelic expereince? Anybody have any info on small animals doing tryptamines? Do rodents meet elves under the influence of dimethyl-tryptamine? Will SWIM's hammy reach enlightenment before SWIM does?!?!?!

LOL!

Are all animals able to trip? Because i don't think their body works the same as a human body(chemicals etc.)

Where is the limit of tripping animals? ever seen a tripping fly? or whale?

actually i've heard reports of spiders being given LSD before - I believe someone was studying how they construct their webs. As you can imagine the webs that were made under the influence of acid were pretty crazy looking. So if you're worried about your pet having difficulties digesting shrooms, there's always the other option...

or you could make an extract. I wouldn't try this with a larger pet though, I'd be worried about the destruction of myself, my home, and my pet!

Not to rag on someone but giving your drugs to pets is sick and disgusting. Yo should be ashamed of yourself. Hitler and the US Army did this to unsuspecting innocent peoples. They jumped out windows. Maybe you need someone to dose you out.

AS for spiders, spiders who were injected with extracts of shrooms build better webs than those who did LSD and/or mexcalkine.

Here are a few references to that research,.

And otehr animal research woth psilocine/psilocybine//

Adey, W. Ross., Bell, Frederick R., and Barbara J. Dennis. 1962. Effects of LSD-25, psilocybin and psilocin on temporal lobe EEG patterns and learned behavior in the cat. Neurology vol. 12:591-602.
Effects of LSD and psilocybin in 18 cats show certain characteristic changes displaying the brevity of their actions after electrodes are chronically implanted in the amygdala, parts of the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex, and others with a loss of normal responses reported.

Bazant?, Gabrielle. 1965. Un probl?me ?claircir. Revue de Mycologia vol. 30:116.
A male spider produces a different net structure after being fed psilocybin. For related research see Witt(1960a, 1960b). In French.

Christiansen, Arnold. 1962. Changes in spider webs brought about by mescaline, psilocybin and an increase in body weight. Journal of Pharmacology vol. 136:31-37.
Several photographs of various spider-webs are presented while the spiders were under the influence of various hallucinogenic drugs. For related information see Witt, (1960a, 1960b).

Gilmore, L P. and R. D. O'Brien. 1967. Psilocybin with a fraction of a rat brain. Science vol. 155:207-208. January.
Psilocybin, an hallucinogen, forms a blue color with a subfraction of rat-brain mitochondria believed to contain nerve-ending particles is studied.

The distribution of 14C psilocin was studied in 74 regions of the rat brain using autoradiograms of sagittal serial sections 1, 30 and 60 min, 2, 4, 8 and 24 hours after intravenous injections.

For related data see Bazant? (1965).

Anyway those are a few of the original animal experimentations with shrooms. The actual furst chemical study of these musrhooms was Michael Levines 1917 paper on his attempts top find active ingredients in panaeolus venonosus (syn=Panaeolus subbalteatus). He used many different animals with mushroom extracts in differnent administraitions of intravenous feedings.

Levine, Michael. 1917. The psychological properties of two species of poisonous fungi. Mem Torrey Botanical Club vol. 17:176-201. October.
Describes several chemical induced techniques used on animals in mans first attempt to investigate the unusual effects attributed to the consumption of fungi causing a cerebral mycetismus in humans (Panaeolus venonosus (syn.=Panaeolus subbalteatus). These laboratory tests came about after the author had read of several intoxications caused by the accidental ingestion of certain species of Panaeolus mushrooms.

And one of the stragest uses of psilocybian shrooms, a doctor who gave shrooms to man with homosexual tendencies who became straighrt after eating shroms in a controlled enviomental setting.

Stein, Sam I. 1959a. Clinical observations on the effects of Panaeolus venenosus versus Psilocybe caerulescens. Mycologia vol. 51(1):49-50. January-February.
This is the first published report on the clinical results involving psilocybian therapy. Two species of psilocybian fungi were administered to a patient as an aid to help rid himself of homosexual tendencies. Results were positive. The mushrooms involved are mentioned in the title of paper.

Giveing animals drugs is like torture. How would you like it if you were so simple minded you cant even reconize yourself in a mirror and then something even more that you cant comprehend. I was slipped acid without knowing it and it was bad even though I had done 300 times before. I wasnt expecting it and it was bad. I coudnt even fathem what it would have been like if I had never done it never mind being a dog that doesnt even start to understand drugs. Its one thing to blow smoke in a animals face and if they like it they will let you know. Its another to give them mind altering drugs. You have to be a dumbass to give your dog shrooms and thier will be bad karma comeing your way. If you have done this allready think about how mean it was next time you trip and then thier might be some justice.

My buddy's dog ate like 3 grams of dried shrooms that were laying on his coffee table (good place to leave drugs ). One day when he got home from work, he saw his dog sitting on a lay-z-boy, smiling away. He was confused that the dog didn't greet him, but didn't think anything of it. So he went to take a shower. When he came back down stairs, he noticed his shrooms were gone from the table, and that the dog was in the exact same position as before. He freaked out and went up to his dog, but the dog was just smiling and panting. Then my buddy started laughing, and phoned me to tell me what happened. The dog didn't leave his spot for i think 2 days. He eventually started scratching at the door to get out and pissed for a LONG time. This happened a few years back.

i just wanted to respond about the comment of giving animals drugs being torture... a couple years back i made a lot of cannabutter which i never ended up using (for various reasons) and eventually i just threw it away. my dog at the time ended up going threw the trash and ate it, and was definitely effected by it (he ate the equivalent of about a 1/8oz of pot and he only weighed 15 lbs). i dont know for sure that he enjoyed it, but for about a week afterwards he tore thru the trash everyday, in the one specific trash can where the origninal cannabutter was, and where there was no food that he could have smelled or anything, seeming like he was looking for more of the special stuff. this was not normal behaviour for this dog. of course, giving drugs to an animal when they dont know what will happen does invoke ethical issues, but i do think animals can enjoy drugs in the same way that humans do. of course, not all humans enjoy drugs, so not all animals will. just my thoughts

its REALLY not cool at all to give animals drugs

their bodies dont work like ours, and they havent the vaugest idea of what would be happening to them, and that has got to be more scary than you can imagine

we only know what it is like for us as humans to try drugs (since we can talk) and we dont even know if the animals like it, or if its good for them at all.

dont give your animals drugs, that is really not cool  :frown:
