By Saint Garcia's Beard, I award this thread of excellence. Great video choice OP.
-------------------- “Strengthened by contemplation and study, I will not fear my passions like a coward. My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

BTW, Arden, Eyes of the World is my favorite Dead song. That is definitely one of the best performances of it.

You are not alone! There are worse addictions, I figure.
Listening to 4/15/70 at Winterland myself. A rockin' The Other One-- one of my top 5 fav GD songs.

Yea, Lion, it's a good one! I remember the very day a good friend of mine introduced me to Eyes of the World. Something beyond words and wrapped up in the music, the lyrics, and the timing spoke to me. A lot of things clicked for me, some ideas about life, but especially my new appreciation for my why my friend was so inspired by the music.

yall want a good secret? go on to the archive and try and find shows that are rated highly but don't have many page views, that's how you can find some real gems.
for instance...
check out the scarlet begonias from http://www.archive.org/details/gd78-09-02.sbd.jools.7925.sbeok.shnf
it always gets me high if i make an effort to listen to the music.
ever notice that?
i dunno if its just me but, the deads music sounds so much better when you actively listen, to like the music you know, instead of just kinda letting it be background.
lovin yall

Almost kind of sad, but 90% of the time my ipod is in or i'm listening to music anywhere it is the dead. Love them, love the raw sound.

I also think it's important, for me at least, not to form an overt attachment to any one band or one style. I try and stay perceptive to other people's music and that golden opportunity to be introduced to something entirely new and amazing.
It happened to me this weekend. I was on MDMA, but it's been confirmed sober.

sure thing Lion.
this video is hilarious... sounds like jerry is really laughing at the fact that he's singing about rain and snow on the fourth of july... thats just a guess though. if you listen hard though you can tell theres some kind of inside joke going on, because jerry is on the verge of laughing the whole song almost
hahahaha
enjoy
oh, another thing i learned is not to overthink the music.
when the band is on, your so high that there is no reason to think anyway.
and when they are off i just do something else like wash the dishes and ignore them for a while... nobodys perfect!

Muahahahaha, ain't that the truth! Got the boys in MSG... they LOVE that place. AND it's the finale of the east coast tour, they're gonna bust out some big guns. JK is really gonna shine as will the rest of the band.
Give this a listen for some MSG magic. Saw DSO do this show a couple years back... fucking orgasmic.
