your oppinion on this situation

My boyfriend and I are broke. We borrowed 2000 from my parents to get us through until we hopefully find jobs. I just got a job making about 100 a night cash. He still needs one. Our rent is 785. He just paid that. Our car payment is 400. We owe 2. He's not paying it because he fears it will be taken eventually anyway so there is no point in wasting money. My parents are in no rush to get paid back. My boyfriend wants to just hold the extra money.
We have a friend that just got a job delivering for a catering company. He's averaging about 10 dollars per hour, cash. He can get my boyfriend a job.
I said take the job. He says that it makes no sense because our car has a V8 engine and is bad on gas. I say it's better then nothing coming in, and at least we stand a chance to keep the car.
Well he stormed out of here in a hurry all pissed off. He throws a fit every time I tell him to make the payments on the car before it gets taken. I tell him that if we loose the car, I will throw a fit and the horror of our situation will be magnified.
Do you think he should just take the job? Should we make our car payments ASAP? If we don't, How long do you think until they take it away?
His credit is shot, and if the car gets taken, mine will be as well. What should we do?

I'd tell him to take the job.
He'll still make a profit. extra money is better than no money.
At least he'll have some sort of income untill he finds something better.

Pay the damn car note before they take it and you really end up screwed. A job is a job, it pays more than sitting on ass hoping for something better. And as most people will tell you, its a lot easier to find a job when you already have one. The person who believes they are above any kind of paying work is a spoiled fool.

Christo, don't let someone ruin your credit, if you guys went into this together then he should be doing everything he can to help you.
Even of he only nets $5 an hour it's still better than nothing.
How much do you owe/have you paid on the car?

pay the car payments, the finance company wants the money not the car, take them as much as you can and let them know you'll catch up the rest ASAP
you need the car and you need your credit, dont let some asshole fuck it up for you

Can you not find a friend to let you borrow a car that's cheaper on gas? Maybe trade that car off at the dealership on some high mpg car? Unless you hide that car, if you don't pay the bills it will get repo'd. I can't tell you how long you've got, but I think it would be better for him to get the job and make your car payment. Why do you have two cars? Can he not take you to work, then pick you up after he gets off?

so you guys are in debt and your unemployed boyfriend doesnt want to take a guaranteed job? tell him to stop being a lazy ass.

he's hording the $ that the OP's parents gave her to support her.
The boyfriend sounds like an asshole and he doesnt care about you (as is evident about your credit score)

He's not hording it for himself. He's just worried we won't have rent or something.

No friend to trade with. I don't think we can trade the car in either because we are behind on payments and upside down in it.
I work over night so sharing the car is not the issue.

you both need to take any job you can get paying anything you can get and make sure you handle the finances if you still have good credit and he doesnt because if yours gets screwed, you're fucked, not him
for the record, my ford F150 got the same gas milage that my v6 honda and most of the 4cyl cars I've owned did, 20-22mpg, it's all in how you drive

For serious. Don't let someone else ruin your credit. If you have never had bad credit then you don' realize how much it can fuck you in the long haul. Trust me, pay the loan each month. Get it paid off and if your boyfriend is a dick about it find a new boyfriend. Do not let your credit get ruined over him being a lazy ass. Seriously. 7 years is a long time. No JK.

He should take the job and continue looking for a different job. As many others have stated, DO NOT let this ruin your credit. That will cost you much more in the long run.
He needs to man up.

what happened to your shroomy dreams?
i dunno, kind of makes sense to me to hold onto the money for rent. I don't drive though so not having a car seems acceptable to me.

I took down my martha. I got 3 pounds of dehydrated mushrooms in my closet.
I'm glad at least one person can see his point of view. I don't agree, but it makes him look like less of a bad person for "hording" the money.

I did catch his train of thought as far as keeping money for rent goes, but it seems like the purest definition of insanity for him to decide against taking any job right now.
Why go one or the other when you can shoot for both?
