No doubt. My flow hood changed everything.
Good luck!

I may get one of these eventually. My 90% alcohol lamp is working ok. ...not soot-free, but workable.
(I am one of those lame "scalpel wipers" you hear about)
JD
What's up, JD.
Scalpel wiping is not as lame as wiping your syringe needle. Syringe needles are hollow, scalpels are not. Contaminates can creep their way inside of a needle which is why flame sterilization of needles is strongly recommended over merely wiping them with alcohol. Flame sterilization of needles kills the contaminate spores that may have made their way inside of the needle.

I miss my bacti-cinerator greatly. It beat the lamp by a lot, but it should for 100x the cost. There are a few on ebay, but I wonder how long they will work. I'd also love to have the mediajet/masterclave9/imaje combo that I was able to use back then. I have never played with a nicer plate making system. For $50k+ you can't beat that setup.

Hello,
I do not have the dough right now, but there is a used one on eBay for $60 after shipping.

Bacti-cinerators looks like they would heat up the handle too much.. Sorry for bringing up the old thread, but I'm reading up on agar work

B-Cs don't heat up the handle very much. I have never even felt the handle get warm when using one.

No more than an alcohol lamp or butane torch. It's the ease of use that makes them nice.

Using it with a flowhood sounds cadillac, but maybe for the future.. $300 pricetag and just gettin' into it.. good wish list material.

80 bucks doesn't sound bad at all.. I don't know where some of these companies get off marking it up that high.. poor business imo

They are sold new at that price. Ebay will have pre-used ones that still work for a discount. I like them better than butane torches. If you plan on doing a lot of agar work I suggest getting one of the ebay B-Cs. It takes less time than the torches or alcohol lamps IMHO.

Finally got a pic of the 14$ torch I use. Picked it up at home depot. Torch head included.

Took a pic for you at the begining of this thread. Was having issues uploading it to my computer. Figured out those issues this morning. Thought I'd go ahead and show you what the torch looked like.
