is it a San Pedro
    #1344221 - 03/01/03 02:02 AM (21 years, 1 month ago)

ok, unfortunatly my camera is being borrowed by a friend and i cant take a picture just yet.

But my neighbor has a huge cactus growing in her yard and she said i can take cuttings as i please, but i dont really want to waste my time unless it is a san pedro or peruvian... Im not familiar with the terminology but ill try my best.

its a large (taller than her house) columnar cactus with many branches. Each column has 5 - 7 ridges they are more triangular than rounded on newer growth. each areole has 10+ spines that are about 1 cm (largest.and go off at a 45 degree angle.). The main stalk is about 1 foot in diameter and almost completly rounded. Its greenish with maybe slight yellowish undertones. (if that makes sense).

It has all the characteristics of a san pedro but the thing that makes me skeptical is that i have never seen the catcus flowers in bloom (it is a nite blooming cactus). but the buds are a dark purplish-red

hope i was able to provide a good enough description as soon as i get my camera back ill post a pic if needed.

thanks

~nicole~

I see what everyone is saying. It is so hard to form an opinion when you see both sides so clearly!

well like i said it resembles a san pedro in just about everyway.

Its just the flower buds that make me skeptical. i have not been able to find any pictures of a san pedro with flowers that hadnt already bloomed and seeing as how i have never actually seen this cactus' flowers in full bloom i was hoping for a lil clarification.
