Some trich before it turns green!
    #1318803 - 02/19/03 06:53 AM (21 years, 1 month ago)

A member here on the boards emailed this to me, asking if it was trich. And, yes, it is. I guess it has turned green now on him.

So, here is the picture of trich, before it turns green...

Well, one day when you look at your casing, and everything looks the same. The next day, you are like: "Wow! Look at that mycelium that popped up overnight!!". Well, that is not mycelium...it takes longer than that when it is in fruiting conditions.

2 days ago, this patch did not exist, it grew white like that, and the next day it sporulated and turned green.

The difference of this and mycelium is also noticed by the fact that this is very, very, very WHITE, and it is not rhizomorphic whatsoever. It also smells like dirt...as I would not recommend smelling it.

the trich also looks more silky smooth, with a less "strand like" appearance. If you dig JUST A LITTLE, you will see nothing but dirt underneath usually , almost like you layed something white on the surface only.

Yeap, sometimes it creates some "bumps" in the casing layer pretty fast, mycelium doesn't do that.

no you misread what he was saying.

mycelium = rhiziomorphic (well sometimes at least)

trich = NOT rhizmorphic and EXTREMELY white.

Id say that mold is actually the much more common pencillium or Aspergilus.

Trichoderma is characteristically grey and scaled, before turning forest green. Aspergillus mold is characteristically white and tends to spread that way before turning a light greenish as it develops spores. Your mold is Aspergillus, not Trichoderma
