What sort of fryer do you use?
Just a frying pan with a fair bit of oil... actually it's more like a sauce pan. add a little salt, pepper and garlic to taste.

Pan frying works great. For both Macrolepiota procera and Chlorophyllum rhacodes. Batter/bread crumbs and a nice oil/vinegar salad with red onion, cucumber, lettuce, peppers, tomato, and possibly a side of mashed potatos is how I dig them=D I guess M. procera is an old term now?

Chlorophyllum rhacodes for me does tend to mush up when fried in butter usually. Not completely, but they're just not chewy like button mushrooms. God damned tasty, though! In your face, button mushrooms!

Button mushrooms are so small and tasteless, usually. Open-cup mushrooms are much more flavoursome.

Speaking of open capped mushrooms, remember way back when I found some Agaricus vaporarius? Apparently, we mistook some of those for C. rhacodes, despite the brown gill color and battered/fried them up. Edible in my book now=D

I've heard some silliness that Macrolepiota procera is now (or going to be?) Chlorophyllum procera but I really don't like that name and don't think I'll use it unless I hear some really convincing arguments that don't involve DNA or other things I can't see.

None of the prints are coming out. I left a bit of space for the cup to be able to breathe but it's still just condensation on the foil.

Atagirl.
If the DNA says xyz we should bear with the confusion and actively be looking to support xyz with subtler macro-features that bind groups, ultimately arriving at a stronger classification. Looks like to me.

Sometimes, yes. I often see notes insisting on microscopic identification accompanying photographs that suggest a number of other features to monitor. And maybe I'm only being hopeful.

Ok, my bad. Don't want to get anyone sick!
I just know up here in the PNW they always warn us about the "Green Gills", but there's never actually been any reported findings up here.

yeah there is a little bit of a weird tint on some of them. I have actually found C. Molybdites that dont have green gills at all, but then the print comes up mint green. I'd also wait for the print, you dont wanna get poisoned

BLASPHEMY! erhmm... Forgive me, i just happen to LOVE Leppies with all my heart. In my humble fungal opinion, very worth the relatively little effort to collect and cook. I dry sautee them cause they cook down so much. sometimes towards the end i will turn the heat to med low and finish them off sauteed in a TINY bit of butter. I love adding them to pasta salads....
