haha, thats a good photo.

I found a bunch of them this year and actually tried to get a shot of the puffball shooting the spores like that, but, I couldnt! :frown:

I was walking in the woods last fall, and thought I found an old nerf soccerballl once, but under further inspection, it turned out to be a huge puffball!!!!!!

I remember when i was 5 we would look for those and we would call them stink bombs and throw them at eachother, one day one of my friends got completely covered in the Spores(Of course i didnt know it was spores just thought it was Stink Powder) then his mom got mad at him.

And I sure as hell wouldn't eat them, I have no idea if they are poisonous, but I would defanitely check that out for sure even before you put them close to your lips!!!

i checked in my Mushroom Indentifying book, it says that they are edible, but that is the stage to release the spores, they are much more pleasant looking b4 then.

Puffballs are very edible at the right stage. Cut it in half vertically, and the entire inside should be uniform and white. Once it starts to change color it's nasty. Large ones are sliced, then they are usually breaded and fried. They're not my favorite, but they're not bad. I know people who consider them among their favorites.

If you're going to consider eating them, make sure you know how to distinguish them from earthballs and Amanita buttons, both of which have been eaten accidentally this way.

Yes they are great sliced a 1/2" thick dipped in catfish batter and deepfried.

If you look on the net, for the worlds largest puffball(I have no link)
there is a picture of a little boy and a little girl that found a puffball in Oregon I think, it was 2 1/2 feet high!!!!!!
Biggest mushroom I've ever seen....
