Uncolonized bs q.

This guy I know has jars of seed colonizing, and noticed that a couple of the jars are lagging by what appears to be a couple of days. To preface: he does not mean to seem impatient, but he is eager to pasteurize and get into the second stage of colonization. Can he simply use the colonized material and discard the uncolonized, which is all loose in the jar. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Perhaps time for another shake?
If it's too colonized to shake, those portions may be too dry to colonize - which I think is something people generally tell you to remove under the most sterile of conditions - losing a little bit of the colonized bits to make sure all of the non-colonized is gone.
Also consider perhaps turning the jars upside down, let the cake move up, then back down again, getting a little last burst of air exchange before moving on?
I know about the impatience! My novel's character's WBS jars (4 pints, 1 quart) are all right at about 90-95% colonized, and he's very excited --- the PF-TEK cakes are pinning like mad and the one he just cased is just starting to colonize the casing! It just makes him want to grow more and more, and he almost forgets why he wants them.
Almost.

Thanks for the reply. The uncolonized seed is a bit dry looking and very loose and not at all attached to the colonized stuff, so, maybe this guy I know will just remove the colonized seed and let the other fall away. He'll let them go another few days, though...(deep breath) patience is key. It's a great hobby and plant therapy to boot .
