'Stoners Against 19' Hand Victory To The Cops: BOYCOTT THEM November 3, 2010 - tokeofthetown.com
It didn't take long after the defeat of Proposition 19, which would have taxed and regulated marijuana in California, for the cannabis community to realize that legalization's ignominious defeat was fueled by the duplicity -- some would say outright treachery -- of certain greedy, reactionary elements within the community itself. Boycotts against anti-Prop 19 businesses are now being organized.
So-called "Stoners Against Prop 19" -- traitors to the movement such as Dennis Peron, Dragonfly De La Luz and J. Craig Canada -- whether through stunning ignorance or outright malice, spread disinformation about exactly what the measure would have done.
They busily sowed division, distrust, and fear among a community that should have been united in striving to loosen the death grip of 70+ years of cannabis prohibition.
Offered the opportunity to embrace the future, these reactionary elements formed a fifth column within the medical cannabis community. For who knows what reasons -- maybe the miserly interest of preserving big pot profits? -- they shamelessly allied themselves with the law enforcement and prison lobbies, with the Religious Right, and with the same intolerant fundamentalists behind the No On 19 campaign -- the very same people, in the case of one statewide organization, that headed up the Proposition 8 anti-gay marriage initiative two years ago.
"Legalization of pot rejected, and some people in the community are celebrating, activist Mickey Martin wrote on Facebook. "So disgusting."
"If you voted No you cannot hit my joint -- ever gain," Martin said.
"I won't forget or forgive," commented Danny Danko of High Times.
"How can some of you people be celebrating," said media personality and cannabis activist Tim Martin of John Doe Radio. "Traitors. Low of low."
While California activists may get another chance at legalization in 2012, with 78,000 California pot smokers arrested or cited each year, two years is a long time.
"Two more years = 150,000 more victims of the pot war," commented activist Lynette Mont-eton Shaw.
"The only thing wrong with the bill was the so-called 'patients rights' frauds smeared our campaign while laughing all the way to the bank," said activist Eric Brenner of The California Marijuana Report.
"These are truly awful people and trust me, a list is being compiled for all dispensaries who were not on board," Brenner said. "I would stop calling for unity and take a look at those crimnals who played right into the hands of the police, handing them victory."
"Don't worry," Brenner said. "We will be back in 2012."
"Radical" Russ Belville mentioned on the live NORML election broadcast from Oaksterdam that a list was made when they called up dispensaries and related businesses, asking whether they supported Prop 19.
Martin has already published a preliminary boycott list of anti-Prop 19 businesses and organizations on his site, Cannabis Warrior.

I am very happy to see a list being compiled. Shame on them. Shame the fuck on all of them. I bet those same dispensaries opposing Prop 19 wouldn't appreciate a visit from the DEA. I would drive 40 miles out of my way to get my medicine from a dispensary that supported the bill.

Not like they care anyway. They'll just go light up their "legal" joint and laugh at the rest of us who face prosecution for enjoying the same plant they do.

As a matter of fact I did, and I understand its shortcomings. Nachohippie and others, like those in this article, obviously did not.

It's ashamed the Cannafornia Community was so divided over this issue. Obviously those businesses and attorneys listed had something major to lose if prop 19 passed. And yes shame on the dispensaries who helped in shutting down this bill because the measure would make them slightly less profitable. And for those legally growing and medically puffing in CA, the additional regulations and sanctions on the herb wouldnt really have affected any of you as long as you kept things straight. Hate to sound like a negative nancy, but I do believe the lobbying against legalization will be much stronger in two years due to what the pharma, liquor, and legal advice industries have at stake.

I dont think anybody is or was trying to say that Prop 19 was perfect... After doing a lot of reading, I'm certain there were a lot of changes I would have liked to see happen to the bill before passing. However, I think I still would've voted for Prop 19 because I would like to think that those changes could have been made AFTER it went into law. I think the big difference of opinion on this issue (among legalization supporters) is whether or not people believe that those changes could have been made after Prop 19 was in place, or whether a new initiative was needed to achieve further changes. Like I said, I would have liked to believe that after changing something so historic, further changes wouldn't be difficult... but at the same time, there definitely was a serious chance that big business could have gotten a stranglehold on the market and stifled out any calls for further amendments once they already controlled this huge industry. So in a way, i'm somewhat glad it didn't pass, because if we all rally behind Jack Herer's (R.I.P.) 2012 initiative, there is the potential to achieve something even greater than what we could have had. But I'm of course also disappointed that many people in the meantime will become new victims of marijuana prohibition. Here's hoping for the best in 2012!

Most of the fucking idiots who voted against prop 19 have no clue how a bill actually works. We( the voters) have the ability to vote to amend, change, and remove parts of a bill. This was a huge fuck up on all of those ignorant, capitalist, close-minded, fox news watching, fucks parts. This is the reason our country is in the condition it is in. MONEY. I have , as im sure most of you have, had a lot of bullshit happen to me because of prohibition. This just fucking pisses me off that we were so close, and a bunch of traitors within our community, who are more worried about how they wont be able to make as much profit, FUCK IT ALL UP. BOYCOTT ALL OF THEM!!!! I am not from Cali, but this would have been a historic moment for the entire cause. We (the rest of America) were relying on you(cali) to help pave the way. Instead you acted like a bunch of capitalist ass holes, worried only about themselves.Good luck fixing your fucking gigantic debt, maybe some of the capitalist fucks who voted against the answer to your debt issues will share some of their medical marijuana/legal money with the rest of the state to help pull you out of debt. TO those who voted for PROP19 I salute you, and I share in your anguish. Eventually we will overcome.

Oh yeah, how nice for them. Meanwhile most other states continue to suffer. If 19 would've passed many other states would have started writing up legalization laws of their own

You're right it would've set a good example, but it wasn't going to change the country overnight. Those states with barbarian marijuana laws are going to change at a painfully slow rate. There's still plenty for them to learn from California, after all it is decriminalized.

Anyone against legalization is fucking ignorant. Who cares what the bills shortcomings were. If you could buy marijuana at a state run dispensary just like I do alcohol here in my state I would be fucking stoked. Californians against legalizing pot should have to hand in their lighters, glass and rolling papers. Shame on them for being anti freedom of the non-medical smokers.

I couldn't agree more with this article, if you smoke weed and you voted against prop 19 you are short sited and selfish. You either completely missed the fact that this could have affected pot law and public opinion all over the world or you have something to gain from it remaining illegal.
Which means that while you're profiting your neighbors are going to jail for the exact same thing you are engaged in, potentially due to the very same bud that you grew or sold. While I'm sure prop 19 wasn't perfect it was the best hope yet to change things for the better. It symbolized that a large group of citizens were unhappy with the current legislation... and somehow it got all fuckin turned around with only weeks to go before the election.
I know that there were other factors but i can't help but partly blame the med community for selfishly wanting to keep it (it is mostly $) in the club, when this could have been one giant leap toward getting the land of the free truly free again. Shame on you .
