Anyone here ever play Xenogears?

I just conquered FF7 again and FF9, looking to move onto one I've never played before and Xenogears seems to be near the top of every Greatest RPG top 10 list. I've read varying reviews, some hailing it as the best game they've ever played, others saying the story sucks and the random battles are too plentiful. I'm looking for some input here from like minded people before I pick this game up.

i just got legend of dragoon which I've meant to play for almost a decade, and man is it killer. xenogears is as well. that along with chrono cross and the FF's are the best PSX RPGs, easy.
also if you wanna pick it up get it used. new will cost you at least a hundred bucks. or get a goozex account which has the best trade rates of anywhere, money wise at least, though it's based on points, even though its kinda based on money too.

So I'm five minutes into the game and I noticed the music in the first town (Lahan Village) sounds almost identical to Chrono Cross's Another Termina. Listen to each clip for about 10-30 seconds and lemme know if it's just me... It's already queued up..

Loved Xenogears. I found it superior to Final Fantasy in most ways. The battle system was ingeniously simple while offering a fun combo system at the same time.
Storyline was great... cut scenes were to die for... I would LOVE to see them re-release that game on a modern system with all the environments and characters remodeled from the ground up in full 3D.

Probably just a port. From what I understand they rarely give it a graphical improvement. If you own the discs, (or own an image of the discs ) you can use an emulator on the computer, and play the CD or point it to the ISO, then download custom shaders that make the game look a lot nicer. Some shaders include comic style, cartoon style, plastic wrap effects, etc. Some work better on certain games, but if you're interested it can really make older games look great.

Xenogears is a really amazing game IMO. It came out right around the same time as FF7 so it was obviously outshined by the popularity of FF. There is alot of dialogue, but its a good thing because the story is really amazing and only gets better as you play along. Yes there are alot of random battles but how could this be a complain of a good classic rpg? The battle system is pretty unique to the series, and not only can you buy equipment for your characters but you also get to upgrade and tune up their gears which is a pretty cool feature. The music is awesome, the characters are cool and memorable, I would easily rate this game an 10

yeah just a port mostly but I think they change it around abit so it looks better with the PS3's smoothing/AA and stuff.

One of my most cherished experiences in life next to the psychedelic experience is indulging myself in the story that is Xenogears. Everyone who likes a phenominal story, fun gameplay, challenging enemies, and overall an entertaining time away from all the crap thats being peddeled through the TV, pick Xenogears up. Words canot describe the game, ya gotta play it. I'm playing KH birth by sleep now, again, awesome.
here are some artworks of the second to final boss, Deus, a machine God weapon, created by man that went conscious and killed the humans that were trying to get rid of it, or take it somewhere, the game does a great job explaining everything. Really, if you like final fantasy, xenogears should be a walk in the park. here:
