Nice psylo!
Thats a beautiful masterpiece, all from starting on cardboard? What kind of woodchips are those? Maybe a special blend you made...got a recipe?

i tried reading over the whole thread but i may have missed the answer to my question, if so sorry.
when making the liquid culture do you use any kind of filter on the jar lids or not ?
and also what kind of sprayers are you guys using?
seems like the Myc. would clog up the sprayer

naw mycelium doesnt clog anything. you want to shake it up anyways to break it up and create more inoculation points .
no filters on my jars, i even leave the lids loose when they are sitting, but i tighten them when i shake them twice a day. germination happens withing 24 hours to 4 days. and once they are germinated you have to use them or they get contaminated. there is a small window to use them or you loose them.

Ahh ha
and how long is that window roughly? I thought best to leave a bit for mycelium to grow out a bit and that's where hit contams

I use a spray bottle from a pet store. Sometimes the sprayer will have a screen over of hose that sucks up the fluid. I remove the screens because they do clog up a little. I have heard that some people have used super-soakers wish success. you could just use the jar that the LC was grown in, maybe poke a few holes in the lid. Shaking the LC will break it up into smaller bits that wont clog up your sprayer as much. Good luck.

awesome, i have about a table spoon worth of cube spores i have saved over the last two seasons im going to give this a shot with.

seems like there are a few bits of trash in there hopefully it wont matter to much. ghetto for the win ?
thought i would use half of them now , and the other half the end of winter beginning of spring. i have two horses on a few acres in the back yard but the only thing that they grow are the dung loving psilocybe.
wish me luck ill post back if it works.

If I were you I would mix the cubensis spore into the animals feed, in that way they will be all over the field. That is if you have access to a livestock field and some cattle feed.

i thought about putting it in the horses water trough , but didnt know if that would work since i have never found any cubes on horse shit in the wild before, and sadly i do not have any cows. my neighbor does though.
still think it would work with horses if i feed the spores/liquid culture to them ? i don't know if live Myc. will survive the digestive system.

These have been kept in a ziplock with the zip mostly unlocked. Just a few days after laying stem butts in here...

keep spreading!

Are you guys letting these colonize indoors or outdoors? I have moved a few of my projects to a warmer place because I have noticed that they grow faster in that way. How about you LC also (warm or cold)?

The above pics were taken about 10 days after setting stem butts to carton/chips. If you go back a couple pages, you can see the same setup a few days prior to help gauge their speed.
Your growth is going to depend on the strength of your particular mycelium and the wood you have available (among possible other factors I'm too dumb to know.) Best thing to do is keep them moist and in the 55-70F range. (10-16C, I think.)
Maynard, I've taken Psylo's advice and started keeping this one in a ziplock (partially unzipped to allow GE) indoors. It's by a window, so it stays colder than, say, the middle of the room. But there are multiple projects outside, and they are doing great also. It's likely the same general idea as cube growing in that colder temps inhibit contams, but warmer temps speed growth. But I've seen woodlover mycelium completely take over contams on rye/WBS... they are ! Same for LC I'd imagine, but if you are looking to do it cleaner (LC, agar, grain), you should look into Bfogg's approaches and/or stop by the cultivation forum. I've done both ghetto and legit and prefer to leave the work of legit for tropical species.
hope this helps. feel free to me if you think I can further assist.

one tip i can give you maynard is stack your cartons. then the tops of those chips are colonizing something aswell as the bottom part contacting that one carton. i stack 5 or 6 together, i pretty much recycle every egg carton we have doing this. the myc will transfer through all of them and now instead of one colonized carton you have 6.
