i am going a little off the norm here tho man so go with the weather, march is supposed to be the prime time and the wine cap patches i made in march did fruit by august but that mushroom is waay more vigorous.
since you guys are further south end of feb has gotta be a good time if its mild. as long as we dont get any more super long freezes from this" coldest worst winter in 50 years" BS . waiting til march is the norm tho and stamets recomends this.
i am just a believer that the organism itself would rather be outside doing its job, not sitting in a tub in your garage for 4-5 months. if its warm, get it outside and let it get accimilated asap with little competition being winter/ early spring. so by next fall its strong and healthy and ready to produce mushrooms. just my 2 cents

Glad to see this thread is still alive. looks great Ryath
A bit of progress.
Baeocystis: Mycelium came originally from spore solution, but transfered from failed attempts. This particular jar is about 5-6 days old.

I'll post some pics of my azurescens, ovoideocystidiata, pelliculosa, and cyanfibrillosa once I get some decent pictures.

Curious. I started my cyan garden in mid July last year and it fruited nice this last fall. Maybe the subtle difference in climate is a factor. What elevation are you at?

ah theres tons of factors. elevation and climate are probably preeety simliar to you.theres amount of water, location, local fungi, amount of sun, ratio mixture, health of the spawn. one of my patches got infested with an Armillaria sp. how it got there i dont know but it really messed things up. it better not infest the hundred year old rhoddo its under! i should probably dig that bed up but it may be too late . but those fuckin things are fruiting all over the place so it cant be just that chip bed.i was digging around in there to see if there was any of that black mycelium because i wanted to see if it glowed . but i didnt see any black myc?
but b that ruins up my theory on getting it out early then if you got fruits from a july planting. maybe it just shows it doesnt fucking matter, this shit just wants to grow!

Left to right: cyanofibrillosa, baeocystis, cyanescens. Can't get a good picture of the ovoideocystidiata or pelliculosa, but there is a bit of growth. Just kinda slow. Pelliculosa jar is a mix of potting soil, natural peat and natural douglas fir mulch from the woods. Seems to like the mixture of soil and peat, just like the baeocystis. Enjoy
Oh, these jars are a little over 12 days old.

I don't think so. I'm sure that other people have had success with this species, but probably never using such ghetto tek's, as I am I know workman got baeocystis to fruit, and I'm sure others have as well. I'm just having a blast with these experiments, and can't wait to see if I will be sucessful. Thanks for the kind words everybody. It'll be nice to have results, and knowing that just spraying a spore solution onto wood chips and the "soil" layer can produce healthy mycelium growth. Just like nature, i haven't sterilized ANYTHING!!

There is growth in the pelli jar I got going, it's just super hard to get a picture of it. Maybe in a week or two
I've got a LC in my fridge that is just waiting for the warmer weather. Then it's off on a few hikes through the woods with my spray bottle

Pell jar... now why did I not think of that...
ok.. so question... I have a half gallon bottle of mycelium broth which I have been holding onto till it warmed up, will be seeding over town... Now, if I leave like a few cups in it, and refill with fresh water and nutrients... it should regrow to its current state of mycelium... right? I was thinking I would be out if I emptied it.. but... what do you guys think?
Also... I have been playing since December with some stem butts from my appearently cold adapted cyan species (Capitol Hill Strain - CHS)... started on egg cartons, then got some to move to wood chips.... but I had also been playing with BRF and vermiculite... made some jars up to see what would happen, to test the process... so... being inquizitive, I tossed in a couple of stem butts to a jar and wow... exploded with mycelium... then...I tossed the contents of the jar into a box of wood chips, BRF/Verm and all... broke it up and spread it out... will post a picture when I can get a good shot...
am thinking of spreading it out on some nice areas in town... though, sort of wonder if I could make a small mushroom garden right in the box... add some soil and let set... think it would fruit?

it'd be a cool trial to see! If you can, make it pretty deep and layer chips/soil.
check out this. it was a rather small amt of myc to xfer, but it did make it all the way around that potter.

looks like cobweb to me, but I'm no expert.
if it is cobweb and there are still some strong rhizomorphic strands in there, get more FAE to your box to get rid of it.

Can't really tell for sure. What does it smell like? is the grey material from an egg carton? What species is this? I have seen some of my cyanofibrillosa mycelium look kinda like that, but more rhizomorphic. I would agree with ryath on the FAE. What's the temps like? I've found that anywhere from 50°F-65°F works well for colonization (the colder it is, the more conditions favor mycelium growth and not mold or contaminates ) I keep all my projects at about 58°F. Hope this helps, but as with Ryath, I am not by any means an expert. Just my 2¢
