Zaireeka, it was an experimental album that consisted of four seperate cd's that could be played seperately or all together in sync, to produce a kind a new kind of sound. I have it, but on of my cd player took a shit, but man, let me tell you, you havn't heard anything like when you play all four of them (or even just two or three) together in sync. An aural wonderland! It is a little hard to find, I got mine at Tower records a couple years back. Soft bulletin is also a kickin' album.

I'm a HUGE lips fan. Great band and each of their albums is very unique.
For a new fan, my recommendation would be to get The Soft Bulletin. It is often compared to St. Peppers Lonely Heart's Club Band by the Beatles, only way more psycolelic. WHAT IS THE LIGHT? is gauranteed to send you to a new place.
After listening to and loving Soft Bulletin, get Clouds Taste Metallic. Much more guitar heavy, but in my opinion, an overall more satisfying listening experience thatn either SB or YBPR.
If after these three albums you are still interested in getting more Flaming Lips stuff, dive into their back catalogue just about anywhere. Some of it is better than others, but all hints toward the great band they will become. Zaireeka is the most experimental of all their albums, and if you can put together a sound system that lets you hear them all, you will be rewarded.
Enjoy

Soft Bulletin is my personal fave, although all are good for tripping. ESPECIALLY, "Morning of Magicians" makes you think HARD!! "What is the Light" "The Spark that Bled"

What about Transmissions From the Satellite Heart? Don't forget about that one. The start of the Flaming Lip's second-most recent phase, the acid/electronic lo-fi rock. I don't think it would be as good for tripping, but it is definitely an excellent cd. Probably my favorite Flaming Lips CD, although all the rest are so so close behind.
Be My Head, Pilot Can at the Queer of God, Chewin the Apple of your eye, when yer 22, and so on and so forth. Moth in the incubator. and so on and so on. It's good stoned music, at times the crazy background sounds at drum beats just get you going. I have special hand motions for all the songs and everything. It just does it to you, and DAMN. yeah. Seriously. I think you should by all the cds, because each one would be well worth the relatively cheap cost. At a discount cd store, you could probably get CTM and TSH for 8 bucks each no sweat.

The Lips are not just good live, they are brilliant. I've seen them twice (both time at small clubs), but missed their recent tour with Beck. GGGGRRRRR.
Get there early. Sometimes they do weird stuff and have party favors for the first so many customers.

The Lips put on a crazy concert. Every kind of visual you could possibly imagine. Definitely set up for the tripper, it seems. Mirrorballs, huge ballons thrown into the audience. Lights on strings, confetti, a video camera on Wayne's mic, a big screen with trippy video sequences/music videos, containing such things as asian schoolgirls with assault rifles, nuclear explosions contrasting with the sights of an orchestra, people dancing in big bunny costumes, and much much more.
Wayne Coyne is obviously not the best vocalist, which is what makes him so distinguishable, but he is quite the performer, as Michael and Steven (who is a monster on the drums, i might add. Those great Lips drums.) . The fact that there are droves of people in animal costumes bouncing around onstage definitely makes for an interesting visual effect as well.
I guess, the bottom line is, the Lips try to make their visual appearance in concert very similar to their sonic appearance; completely unique, celestial, complex, out on a limb, and innovative, in a spastic sort of way.
-------------------- Eh.
