first grow question

Hey , I'm a first time grower and I'm following the PF TEK. I couldn't find any 1/2 pint jars so I bought the wide mouth pint jars. I was going to double the substrate recipe until a lot of forums didn't recommended it. Instead I made just enough substrate for 12 half pint jars and put it in the pint jars and the top layer of vermiculite is much deeper, all the way to the top. I also only had enough spore solution to inoculate each jar with .8 ccs of spore solution for each jar. Its only been day 1 of colonizing but is there any problems I could run into doing this?

Sounds like you should be ok. What kind of temps are your jars at?

Its at room temprature, about 74 to 78 and in a box with no light. Would it slow down colonizing at all?

Shouldn't be a problem. I just set mine out on a shelf in my closet. You have hole open on the jar lids right? No tape on them? I would guess with that much verm the more gas exchange the better.
A week ago I inoculated 5 1/2 pint jars with a bit less than 2cc's total for all of it. It worked fine, that less is more thing is true as I only squeezed out enough for a drop or two in each hole. They are doing better or at least the same as my first attempt which I used more than I wanted. I think my nerves made me a bit shaky the first time.
Only filling half the jars was a good thing as a full pint jar will sometimes stall before 100% colonization, or so I have heard over and over here.

with a verm barrier that big it may be hard to get the needle all the way to the substrate. if you inoculated the jars but the needle was in the dry substrate and didnt trickle into the brf/verm/water mix then they probs wont grow. but if the spores did make it to the wet mix then your odds are good imo.

Today is day 8 and so far I have no colonazation whatsoever, the jars look exactly the same as when I started, no foreign bacteria is growing from what I see, but I don't have any mycelia. When I inoculated I injected spores in 1 place at the middle of the jar, that's my answer to why I cannot see the myceluim, what's everyones feedback on that?

It's gonna be a while before you see any colonization if you inocculated in the middle, and you better hope that your spores made it past that thick layer of verm.

Any guesses on how much longer until I see the growth? And I made sure it made it past the verm layer! Wouldnt having all that extra verm at the top dry out the cakes more? could that be why?
