BLG's right in my own back yard

After spending the spring spreading LC on just about every wood pile and stump in my yard I find these growing from a live oak tree. Go figure. At least I know my property has suitable environments. Maybe my intended patches will fruit later.

I haven't actually been able to go out to any of my regular spots this year do to an unfortunate scaffolding collapse that has me unable to do any real hunting this season. Which sucks because I wanted to send you some more of those liquiritiae I found last fall so you could get em under a scope. But yeah, I was very stoked when I saw those in my yard.

Damn, sorry to hear about your accident. I'm in construction myself so I know how it is. Hope you mend quick and well.

Thank you. I appreciate that. Unfortunately I crushed 3 lumbar discs so I'm no longer able to do construction. But the worst is over and I'm well on my way to recovery. I saw that you're an iron worker in one of the other threads so be careful yourself. And good luck finding yourself gums. I know the season in ny part of the country started kinda late so maybe themes still hope over in your neck of the woods.

I'm as careful as I can. I have a crushed vertebrae between L4 and L5 that is only 1/32 of an inch, just from wearing my work belt. I have another crushed vertebrae between C6 and C7 from a concrete form hitting me in the head while building a skyscraper in NYC from 3 stories above. That was in '82 but the injury didn't surface until 15 years later. Some days are good and some days are not so good.
I hope you got a settlement. I got squat.

Ouch. Yeah those injuries definitely sound painful. I'm still in a legal battle with workman's comp. They don't feel I need to have income while out of work from my injury. I swear dealing with those assholes is almost worse than the injury itself. I crushed the L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1. It's strange how the fall did that much damage and I have no back pain, just severe nerve compression to my right siatic nerve.
Ok. On to a lighter subject. While the caps on my specimens are fresh and intact the stipes appear to have started rotting from the inside out, or it may be bug damage. The insides are loose (almost hollow) brown and kinda spongy looking. The outer layer if stipe flesh is still yellow and firm and there is no odor to indicate rot. Just that wonderful gym smell that I love so much. Do they normally hollow with age? Or should I just throw out the stipes? All of my previous finds have been pretty solid inside.

Those sound buggy. Pitch them. Fungal gnats are funny. Sometimes they will eat a mushroom apart and other times they are nowhere to be found. Keep the good, get rid of the bad, and you'll do fine.

Ok. In that case I may try to use em for culturing instead of consumption. See if I can give them a second life. I won't pitch em until I know they have no value whatsoever. Just in case I don't find anymore this season.
And, as always, thank you for your help.

When I see them the stems are always more hollow than the caps. I think it's bugs.
I hope you all feel better really soon!

Oh yes I am very aware of the body buzz gyms produce. I prefer them over other active mushrooms for that very reason. And these appear to be more potent than previous finds I could wary the cap flesh turn blue green as I was chopping them up to make tea. They didn't turn completely blue but much more so than others I've picked. Tomorrow should be fun.
